Traffic Safety Commission Minutes - 05/07/2008A MINUTES OF THE MEETING FOR THE WICHITA FALLS TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION OF May 7, 2008 MEMBERS PRESENT: Mark Beauchamp Leland Wright Tony Fulton Clyde Williford Tim Turner Charles Byars EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS PRESENT: A1C Jamie Randall — SAFB VISITORS MEMBERS ABSENT: Don Vann Tim Hertel Laney Oliver David Brock Kevin Callahan Charles McMillan Ryan Matthews EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS ABSENT Rick Hatcher, Councilor Co- Chairman Clyde Williford called the May meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission to order at 1:35 p.m. Mark Beauchamp offered the invocation. The minutes and financial report for April were approved as written. Accident Statistics Leland Wright of the Wichita Falls Police Department gave fatality statistics for the year to date. City Traffic Report Mark Beauchamp stated the intersection at Greenbriar and Southwest Parkway by the new Walmart is up and running. He does not know of any incidents occurring there. Mr. Beauchamp also advised construction at the intersection of Stone Lake and Southwest Parkway is scheduled to begin in approximately one month. This will include rebuilding the intersection of Kemp and Maplewood and also some modifications at Lawrence Road and Maplewood. State Traffic Report Tim Hertel was not present, so there was not a state traffic report. Committee Report Mark Beauchamp advised a member of the Bicycle Coalition was scheduled to be at the meeting, but did not show. Mr. Beauchamp advised he will wait to discuss the committee report during new business as the Bicycle Coalition and MAC are going to both tie in with our project for the PSA. Unfinished Business 1. Item 07 -10: Areas of Concern on School Crossings Mark Beauchamp stated they are waiting to see if TXDOT will release a new Safe Cross to School funding program which will help get some of the project accomplished. 2. Item 08 -02: Kell Blvd. Pedestrian Ordinance A letter is being completed by this commission to be sent to the City Council for review. We are also holding for additional data on the Bicycle Coalition to complete handling of this item. 3. Item 08 -03: Spring Patrol Party Recommendations Tony Fulton advised Skate Whirl has been reserved for May 29, 2008 from 4:00 — 6:30 p.m. Price is $300.00 which is the same as last year. Mark Beauchamp advised since we did not have a winter party, we could possibly have some door prizes. Discussion followed. $250.00 was authorized to spend on door prizes. Gift certificates totaling this amount will be purchased from Walmart, Hastings, McDonald's, and Target. New Business 1. Item 08 -04: Motorcycle Awareness (MAC) Mark Beauchamp advised a member of the MAC was to fill out the application to apply for this commission. Mr. Beauchamp is working with both the MAC and the Bicycle Coalition to develop a public awareness campaign. Both organizations have similar ideas to get the awareness out concerning alternative modes of transportation. They are working to get a couple of service campaigns out. These two organizations will tie in with the PSA being developed by this commission concerning duties following a motor vehicle accident.
