MINUTES OF THE MEETING FOR
THE WICHITA FALLS TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION

Phil Golden called the April meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety
Commission to order at 1:30 p.m.
Mark Beauchamp offered the invocation.
Members and visitors introduced themselves.
The minutes were approved for March 2010.
The financial report for March was presented by Stan Horton. The balance is
$1,012.93.

Accident Statistics:
Lt. Garza reported there were 246 total accidents for March 2010. 48 injury
accidents were reported with one resulting in a fatality. A high collision intersection list
was provided to each member. Some discussion followed in reference to the fatality. It is
still under investigation and no final results or conclusions have been determined.
City Traffic Report
Mark Beauchamp discussed the following:
1. No major changes from last month. He advised they are in a
maintenance mode as of now making ready for new projects.
2. Mark advised his crew is in the final stages of overhauling the school
flasher project. This new system will allow the city to make adjustments
as needed. The old system was pager operated and no longer reliable.
3. LED lighting projects are still being reviewed and considered. The city
wants to look at the best and most economical lighting, so this may take
some time to select the best overall vendor.
State Traffic Report
Tim Hertel advised via phone the following projects are still underway or scheduled
for letting with no new projects expected in the near future:
1. The illumination projects for Spur 325, I44, and Hwy 287 interchange.
2. Safe routes to school are still in the works and hope to be completed soon.
Committee Reports
Safe routes to school will appear as a committee report in the future after it is
adopted.
Unfinished Business:
01- 10Spring Safety Patrol Party
All agreed to have the Spring Safety Patrol Party at Skate Whirl. Chairman
Phil Golden later confirmed the date: Thursday May 201h 4 -6 pm.
New Business:
Mark Beauchamp advised he has been contacted by Lamar Elementary School in
reference to installing a crossing guard. Mark advised he has evaluated this area in
the past but will monitor it some in the future to look into upgrading this location.
Tim Turner advised he would be willing to help with the evaluation and assist
however needed to further advance safety for this location.
