Park Board Minutes - 12/02/2010Wichita Falls Park Board Meeting December 2, 2010 W.F. Recreation Center Room 202, 60011 m Street 1:30 p.m. Presiding: k1 Alan Donaldson /Chairperson i Members Present: Alan Donaldson, Jim Miller, Penny Miller, John Hirschi, Stephen Garner, Sharon Roach, John Fritzsch, Stephen Priester and Mike Rucker Members Absent: Staff Present: City Council Representative: Ben Filer and Peg Marquardt Jack Murphy & Genice Wilson Mary Ward CALL TO ORDER: Alan Donaldson called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm. The minutes of October 28, 2010 meeting were put before the board. Penny Miller made the motion to accept the minutes and Mike Rucker seconded the motion. Minutes were approved. DEPARTMENTAL REPORT: 1. South Weeks Pond grand opening was yesterday and it went really well. The gazebo on the hill will be installed after the dirt is settled. Remaining work includes parking, drainage, and signage. 2. There are two projects at Lake Wichita Park which are recommendations from this board. a. Four shoreline tasks: access walk to shoreline for fishing, nature signs, wildlife observation ramp and deck, and a small floating pier with ramp on the lake dam. b. Off Leash Dog Park 3. The Holliday Creek section of the Circle Trail is to be completed in February. It is not known if any trail amenities will be available. 4. TXDOT grant for two sections of the Circle Trails on Seymour Highway and Barnett Road will be advertised for bid early next year. 5. The Water Mill Traffic Control Cabinet Landscape has finally found a home at the intersection of Lawrence and Maplewood. 6. We are continuing work on the installation of the irrigation system and landscape for the new Animal Reclaim Center off Hatton Road. 7. The Sports Complex maintenance building is nearly completed. We are lacking only the yard paving and fencing. 8. The Wichita Bluff Open Space grant is still in consideration by the Texas Parks & Wildlife, as well as the parking lot for safe access. 9. Castaway Cove will be managed by the City this coming year. 10. The Parks & Recreation Basketball League has started with 30 teams. 11. The mailbox for Letters to Santa has been installed at the MSU Fantasy of Lights. 12. The Recreation's annual Christmas in Scotland Park is scheduled for Saturday, December 4t'. 13. There will be a Christmas dinner for the 50 + Zone on December 14"'. 14. Early count has 200 dead trees to be replaced this winter by the Parks Maintenance division. OLD BUSINESS: No Park Improvement Committee meeting this month. NEW BUSINESS: No new business. OTHER ITEMS: Penny Miller noticed that a ramp has been put in by the Lake Wichita Park spillway and she approves. It was definitely needed. She wanted to know who was responsible for it. Jack Murphy stated that it was probably the Public Works Department, but, will find out She also wanted to let Mr. Murphy know that the Houston Audubon Society will be visiting Lake Wichita on one of their bird field trips the end of January. Stephen Priester wanted to know if the drinking fountain, that was stolen at the spillway, has been ordered.
