CALL TO ORDER:
Penny Miller called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm. The minutes of September 23,
2010 meeting were put before the board. Peg Marquardt made the motion to
accept the minutes and Sharon Roach seconded the motion. Minutes were
approved.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
Since Jack Murphy is attending NRPA this week and now is at Texas Municipal
League Conference in Corpus Christi, Texas, Scott McGee gave the Departmental
Report. Mr. McGee is the Recreation Superintendent so the report was more on
the Recreation side of the Parks & Recreation department than usual.
1. The 50 + Zone have close to 3,000 members. They average about 400
coming to the Zone from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday.
2. Recreation has over 30 different classes ranging from Children's Classes,
Adult Classes and Dog Obedience Classes.
3. We have Special Events which consist of Halloween in the Park, Santa's
Mailbox, Christmas in Scotland Park, Kids Fishing Rodeo, Easter Egg Hunt,
June Summer Concerts, Bluegrass Festival and many more.
4. In our Athletic department we have 118 Softball teams, 9 Flag Football
teams, and in our new Kickball program we have 5 teams with lots of
interest in having it again in the Spring. There are three crew members
who maintain 8 softball fields, 7 practice fields, the P & R Train, our stage,
the skate park, the mowing around Plum Lake, during the summer they
maintain the swimming pool in Lucy Park and they are waiting on word
about the Water Park and what kind of maintenance they will do there.
Right now we have Basketball registration going on and we usually have
anywhere from 40 to 50 teams that play in our league. These basketball
games are played at the Jefferson and Scotland gyms.
5. In the office is Genice Wilson and Clint Strong who take care of our class
registration, park shelter reservation, log cabin rental, 50 + Zone
registration and making of their membership cards, permits for tennis

tournaments, Duck Blind Permits and just about any little thing we need
done.
6. Our new program coordinator, Amy McKim, has done a fantastic job in the
short time she has been with us. She put the Bluegrass Festival together
and it went well and she was ready and prepared for the Halloween in the
Park event that was cancelled due to rain. Her next project is the special
event, Christmas in Scotland Park.
OLD BUSINESS:
No Park Improvement Committee meeting this month.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Board discussed combining the November and December Park Board
Meeting since the meeting falls on Thanksgiving in November and Christmas
in December. The Park Board will have the combined meeting on December 2,
at 1:30 p.m. All approved.
OTHER ITEMS:
When will the new Pond be stocked with fish? The Pond will be stocked right
before the Grand Opening, which has not been scheduled yet.
The fountain has been placed in the pond and it is stationary, we are waiting
for the electricity to be hooked up.
The connector trail is still scheduled to be completed in December.
Lighting in the parks and on trails were discussed and Scott McGee will get in
touch with Traffic about park lighting that is out.
When will the fountain that was vandalized at the dam be replaced? Scott
McGee will get with Terry Points and Jack Murphy and find out
ADJOURNMENT:
Motion was made by Ben (Chip) Filer to adjourn meeting at 1:50 pm and John
Fritzsch seconded the motion. Approved.
