motion. Minutes were approved.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
Scott McGee introduced to the Park Board, Amy McKim, the new Recreation
Program Coordinator for the Recreation Department.
1. The grant application to the TXDOT for two trails was approved. The 80%
matching grant of $2.447m is for construction of the 1.7 mile trail Circle Trail
section on Barnett Road from Lake Wichita to Johnson Road and for the 1.8
mile section on Seymore Highway from the 80 acre Wichita Bluff Open Space
to the BNSF railroad track. Once these two sections and the section currently
under construction on Holliday Creek are completed the City will have 18.5
miles of the 25 mile Circle Trail. We will have three gaps to complete. The first
priority will likely be to acquire ROW along the section from Lucy Park to the
Wichita Bluff Open Space.
2. The City received notice last week that the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department
turned down the City's grant application for the second time on the Wichita
Bluff Open Space site. We also received a notice the same day from the BNSF
Railroad stating that they are not in favor of the City building a trail on their
ROW between Seymore Highway and Barnett Road. City staff will get with
BNSF to try again for ROW trail access.
3. The annual budget has been presented to the City Council by the City
Manager. The budget will, generally, be the status quo.
4. The South Weeks Park Pond off Southwest Parkway is about 99% finished.
What remains are the floating fountain(s), gazebo on the hill, and some asphalt
road and parking lot work. It was noted the gazebo may have to wait up to a
year due to engineer's advice of dirt settling. Dedication could be in a couple
of months.
5. Lake Wichita Park improvement plan was approved by the 4B Board.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Park Improvement Committee did not meet. Nothing to report
NEW BUSINESS:
No new business.
OTHER ITEMS:
1. Penny Miller mentioned the Recreation Department's page on Facebook for
activities and events.
2. Report of trash on north loop gravel trail in Lucy Park.
3. Discussion of vandalism on trails at the Falls and at the spillway.
4. Report on the status of the Off Leash Dog Facility recommendation.
5. Report on tree stress /loss on the Weeks Park Golf Course.
