DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
1. The City has made a commitment to the 2.6 mile trail Holliday Creek trail
from Hamilton Park to East Scott. This will be about a year to a year and
a half project.
2. We have completed the Softball Complex and we had the dedication. We
have completed one season of play and everything went well.
3. We have opened the Skate Park and are finishing up on the landscaping
of the facility.
4. Right next to the Skate Park we have plans to install a Sports Complex
Maintenance Barn. This project will be started soon.
5. We are proceeding with the acquisition of the 80 acre site known as the
Burns Property off of Seymour Highway. This will connect the Circle Trail
coming from Lucy Park up the Wichita River to this site and through to it
to Seymour Highway and eventually on west to Lake Wichita completing
the 26 mile Circle Trail system.
6. Our projects for this winter are on going. We should be replacing
between 100 and 300 trees and spreading mulch. The Park Maintenance
crews are also painting signs and benches.
7. Landscape of the median off of Southwest Parkway is underway. We are
working with TXDOT on this project.
8. MLK Blvd at 7th Street crossing will be paved and a decorative concrete
will be poured in four corners. We are also putting in handicap ramps.
9. City Council has their annual planning retreat the 21st and 22nd of
January.
10. Attached to the overall trail project and approved by City Council will be a
spur from Rhea Road, about 1/4 mile connector, to the Dam on Lake
Wichita.
NEW BUSINESS:
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Report of Park Improvement Committee.
Jack Murphy had a request from Dave Clark in Planning. He would like
the Park Improvement Committee to revisit the area between Sisk Road
and Gregg Road off Southwest Parkway. He feels this is an important
area to purchase land for new parks before it is too late. Jack Murphy will
e -mail the Park Improvement Committee members on a date and time to
revisit this area. It will probably be sometime the first part of January.
The Committee needs to focus on Lake Wichita planning after this.
2. Discussion of promotion and recognition of community service in parks.
We are on line at cwftx.net, the City's website. It was stated one may
click on City Services and at the very bottom you will click on Volunteers
in parks. At that site different tasks volunteers can do in parks are
suggested. Groups that have volunteered are not on the site, yet.
OTHER:
Alan Donaldson made note that everyone on the Park Board was present and
each member introduced themselves to the John Hirschi the Park Board's
new member.
Mr. Donaldson also informed the Board that we still have two vacancies and
if they know of anyone who would like to be on the Board, please tell them to
get their application in to the City Clerk.
