Minutes from October 23, 2007 were approved. i RECEIVED IN g CITY CLERK'S OFFICE I Date —t -7 --0 V B, IM ime .� Librarian's report: The library currently has two vacancies: the Youth Services Manager position is currently advertised on the city website and on various list -servs within the library community, and Alicia Bevington, one of four part-time library pages, has resigned. The Winter Reading Program began January 2, 2008, and will run through March 1. Children are being asked to draw their favorite book and their drawings are up on display in the Youth Department. For each picture turned in, the child receives a small incentive (candy). Teens and adults are being asked to read 3 books, and on submission of brief reviews, they receive either a soup -in -a -jar or a brownie -in -a -jar kit. Ms. Daly also outlined the results of an emergency meeting of the Friends of the Wichita Falls Public Library held January 15, 2008. A new slate of officers is now in place: President Jim Kearby Vice President Peggy Gordon 2 °d Vice President Mary Kearby Secretary Melissa Edwards Treasurer Jenny Bechtold The Executive Board has since met and has made progress towards a revitalization of the Friends organization. A newsletter will be distributed in the near future, and a program celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday is already being planned by the group for Saturday, March 8. Old Business : Ms. Daly distributed preliminary results from the Community Survey that were also forwarded to Councilor Mike Smith for discussion at the City Council Strategic Planning meeting to be held January 23. The results concerned just 3 out of 15 questions, and were the questions that alluded to branch services and security issues. (The full survey should be available to the Advisory Board at next month's meeting.) As of January 16, 2008, when the results were first captured, there were 225 responses. Ratio of those patrons responding online versus using forms in the library was approximately 50:50. After much discussion and debate as to what interpretations could be drawn from the preliminary findings, the Board agreed to table any further action by the Safety & Security subcomnuttee. Next meeting: The date of the next Advisory Board meeting will be February 26, 2008 at 4:15 pm in the Library Conference Room.
