A quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 4:24 pm.
Dr Richard Sutton agreed to Chair the Library Advisory Board for 2008 -9.
The minutes from September 23 were accepted and approved.
Librarian's report:
Ms. Daly reported that the library has had to extend the search for a Librarian I: staff interviewed 14 qualified
candidates and then offered the job to 6 individuals who had then all declined the position. When a reason was given,
most people indicated that the salary was the deciding factor. The re- posting has already garnered some more interest,
and Ms. Daly was hopeful that the position could be filled by the end of the calendar year.
Ms. Daly reviewed a selection of annual statistics (attached) from Fiscal Year 2007 -8. These included door count totals
and circulation totals, as well as a more detailed breakdown of how well individual collections had checked out during
the year. Although a relatively small collection, the library DVDs have almost tripled in checkouts over a 4 year time
period. Fiction checkout has increased steadily over the same time period, with nonfiction showing a slow decline. Ms.
Daly noted that this was most likely due to the ever - increasing popularity of electronic resources, and noted that staff
are now busy weeding the physical Reference collection, moving a large number of items to nonfiction shelves, and
hopefully creating space for other collections to expand into.
Copies of two policies, Library Rules of Conduct and Children in the Library were distributed for review. Ms. Daly
asked that members look over the documents and note any suggested changes or questions for the next meeting.
Ms. Daly confirmed that there is still a vacancy on the Board and asked members to consider possible candidates.
Next meeting:
The date of the next Advisory Board meeting will be November 25, 2008 at 4:15 pm in the Library Conference Room.
There being no further items for discussion, the meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.
