Librarian's report:
Staff Update -
Ms Daly reported that there had been over 270 applicants for the advertised library assistant position. There are 2
current vacancies, and offers have been made to individuals: it's hoped that at least one person will start work before
Christmas.
Operating Hours —
The new operating hours have seemingly been taken well by patrons: Saturdays are now seeing an average of
approximately 100 people through the doors per hour. Door counts on Saturdays average 400 during 4 hours open,
compared to an average of 600 when open for 8 hours. For staff, this means staying busy!

New Business:
The time has come to update the library's long range plan. Ms. Daly asked board members to envision what kinds of
features might be included in long range planning, with the intent of producing a revised document in early 2010. There
followed considerable discussion concerning long range planning in general.
Friends of the Library:
Ms. Daly attended the Friends' annual appreciation dinner in November. The group reported healthy sales during 2009,
and the commitment to the bookstore is as strong as ever. Jim Kearby, the group president, announced that the Friends
will not be sponsoring a Dr. Seuss event in 2010 as they have for the past 2 years, but added that they will continue to
support the library in as many projects as possible.
