Jim Zillweger VISITORS MEMBERS ABSENT: Jody Wade - excused Ronnie Awtry - excused Forrest Ward Jr. Tom Walls - excused Henry Oliver Al Sutko - excused EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS ABSENT The May meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called to order by Co- Chairman Tim Hertel at 1:35 p.m. Elaine Bourgoin gave the invocation. The financial report and minutes for the April meeting were approved as written. Sgt. Brad Hardin circulated the accident statistics and noted the top 10 locations that will be worked to try to improve traffic control. The number of accidents are down overall. Page 1 r � City Traffic Report John Burrus advised the commission that the signal lights downtown have been removed. There have not been any complaints regarding the changes. Mr. Burrus also reported that the timing issues on Scott are good since the changes have been implemented. The traffic department has received favorable response on the changes made on Harrison and Speedway. City crews will change the parking allowances on Lebanon around the end of the month. Right now, the crews are painting poles and stripping around the city. Mr. Burrus will be looking at the traffic flow on Maplewood and Southwest Parkway at different times of the day to improve the flow of traffic. State Traffic Report Mr. Tim Hertel advised that the overhead entrance should be open within the month of May. TXDOT will be looking at entrance lanes and merge conditions onto the overhead. Committee Reports Public Service Announcements - Ty Walker reported that the video for the MSU Bicycle Team has been shot and will be presented to the commission for approval. He also advised that Linda Ammons has been able to get a radar trailer as a loaner to make a TV spot. There will be footage made on the promotion of the trailer on Wednesday, May 22 "d at Ave. O and Kemp. The spot will promote the various ways of utilizing the trailer and will hopefully help generate revenue to help purchase the equipment. Commission members will participate in the taping. The members that will be supporting the promotional are Tim Hertel, Brad Hardin, Joe Clement, John Burrus, & Jody Wade. The promotional will be held on Wednesday at Ave. O and Kemp and will start at 2:00 p.m. Item to remain open. New Business Item 02 -02: Spring Safety Patrol Party Elaine Bourgoin reported that Thursday, May 23 "d from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. will be the time and date for the party at Sand Beach Swimming Pool. Mrs. Bourgoin reminded members of their assignments to make the party successful. Everyone was encouraged to be there to help with supervision of the participants. Item to remain open. Item 02 -03: Lake Park Dr. at Weeks Pk. Lane John Burrus reported that the city ordinance allows for restriction of parking on the street when conditions exist to create safety problems. His recommendation is to restrict parking on the north side of the street. He will arrange for press coverage and should have the work completed within two weeks. Item to remain open. Page 2 Items of Discussion MSgt. Jim Zillweger brought an issue involving Reilly Rd. for the commission's review. MSgt. Zillweger has been in touch with the city offices regarding the condition and the width of the road. He feels it is an unsafe situation when the children are coming and going from the school. The width of the road does not meet requirements and the condition of the street creates problems for the neighbors. Mr. Burrus agreed to conduct the study to try to alleviate the space. He will report back the commission this morning. Councilor Ammons will also get in touch with the engineering department to determine if there is anything that can be done. There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 2:55 P.M.
