Item 01 -02: Public Service Announcements
Mr. Troy Jensen with the Wichita Falls Public Information office
presented the videos made for the commission featuring bicycle safety issues and the radar
trailers. The commission was pleased with the videos and will furnish the tapes to the local
television stations, Midwestern State University, and the Wichita Falls Independent School
system to air on their networks as public service announcements. Item to remain open.
Item 01 -13: Radar Trailers
Mr. Darron Leiker advised the commission that he has requested one unit in
his budget request for next year. The police department is also requesting one unit. Mr.
Leiker suggested that the item be held open until the August meeting to know more what
will be happening on the budget requests. The commission agreed that the purchase of the
units would be preferable to the lease option. Item to remain open.
Item 02 -02: Spring Safety Patrol Party
Elaine Bourgoin reported that the party was cancelled due to the inclement
weather. Unfortunately, the party can not be rescheduled since the children are now out of
school. Mrs. Bourgoin suggested that perhaps the commission needs to look at the party
plans since this has happened before and the schools are disappointed. John Burrus
suggested that we swap the events by holding the skate party in May and the swim party in
September. The commission agreed that would be in the best interest and will implement
in the upcoming school year. Item to remain open.
Item 02 -03: Lake Park Dr. at Weeks Pk. Lane
John Burrus advised that the project has been completed and there have
been no complaints. No parking signs were installed on the north side of the street. Item
closed.

Items of Discussion
Mrs. Angela Haas introduced herself to the commission. Mrs. Haas works as a
school crossing guard at John Tower Elementary School. Mrs. Felicia Reid also was
present at the meeting and is also a crossing guard at the same school. Mrs. Haas explained
that there is a problem on Missile Rd. and Hooper with the traffic refusing to stop when
they are crossing children. Mrs. Haas advised that the caution lights flash from 7:20 a.m.
to 8:15 a.m. and again from 2:40 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The signs and markings do not seem to
help. Mrs. Haas explained that she has approached the school officials regarding the
problems and has not received any assistance. Mrs. Haas explained that she is asking the
commission for any assistance to help with the existing problems before someone is hurt.
The commission members agreed to look into the situation to see what can be done
and what changes may be needed. Chairman Jody Wade assigned a committee to work on
the project. Committee members are John Burrus, Joe Clement, Patsy Walls, and Sgt.
David Stout. Item will be added to the August meeting agenda.
Chairman Wade reminded the commission that there will be no July meeting.
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned
at 2:55 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Jody Wade
