Co Chairman Tim Hertel called the June meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety
Commission to order at 1:40 p.m.
Mr. Brad Altman gave the invocation.
Mr. Jim Zillweger was welcomed back to the commission as the representative for
Sheppard Air Force Base.
The financial report and minutes for May were approved as written.

The accident statistics were circulated for review. Lt. R.W. Smith advised the
commission that the traffic unit would be working the top accident locations in the coming
month. Lt. Smith pointed out that the number of accidents were down for the year's total.
City Traffic Report
Mr. Mark Beauchamp reported to the commission that there have been two
accidents at 91h and Lamar. The department has placed beacons on top of the stop signs to
try to alleviate the problem. The signals at Lawrence and Gregory are now online. And
the lights at the crossing for the hospital helicopter pad will be activated within the week.
State Traffic Report
Mr. Davis Powell advised the commission that the work on Highway 79 &
238 is progressing. Mr. Powell will check on the stop sign on Wenonah and report back to
the commission. The signs on Kell for the Lawrence Rd. and Lebanon exit will probably be
installed later in the year. They are also still working on the lights on Lebanon.
Unfinished Business
Item 03 -03: Safe School Routes
Mr. Ken Parker advised all of the information will be included in the
information packets sent out to parents in the fall for the beginning of the school year.
Item to remain open.
Item 03 -06: Spring Safety Patrol Party
Elaine Bourgoin advised the commission that the swim party was very
successful. The staff at the pool was great and the children had a great time. Mrs.
Bourgoin thanked commission members that helped with the party. Item closed.
Item 03 -07: Solicitors
Co- chairman Hertel advised the commission that a letter from the
commission was sent to Mr. Berzina in support of the pending ordinance. At this point, it
is now up to City Council to make any decisions. Item closed.
New Business
Item 03 -08: Parking
Mr. Darron Leiker advised the commission that the traffic counts and
analysis on Barnett Rd. and Southwest Parkway have been completed. Mr. John Burrus
referenced the city ordinance dealing with parking on medians and sidewalks, angle
parking, and obedience. Mr. Burrus advised that there are 3 options:
1. Remove the signs which will create a hazardous situation
2. Go to angle parking
3. Leave as is

Mr. Kenneth Parker advised that the school district is willing to manage the
upkeep on the grounds. The commission suggested that the Little League Association make
their suggestions for a remedy and participate in the presentation to the city council. John
Burrus and Mark Beauchamp will contact the Association and prepare the presentation.

There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was
adjourned at 2:50 P.M.
