Chairman Tim Hertel called the August meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety
Commission to order at 1:35 p.m.
Trooper Joe Clement gave the invocation.
The minutes for the June meeting were approved as written.
The financial reports for June were approved.
Lt. R.W. Smith reviewed the statistics for the prior month and quarter. Basically
the same areas were identified in the new statistical reports. The most common factors
identified from the reports were that most accidents happen on Fridays and from 1:00 to
6:00 p.m. all other days. Speed, driver inattention and following too closely are the most
common reasons for the accidents.

City Traffic Report
Mr. Mark Beauchamp reported to the commission that the signals on 7th & Eastside
have now been installed. There are also new signs that say "Blind Person Crossing"
near the Beacon Lighthouse for the Blind. The Video Detection system is being
installed throughout the city, which will give more accurate statistics for planning
and efficiency. Mr. Beauchamp also reported to the commission that a letter from
Mr. Howard Allison was received regarding the signals at 8th and Holliday and 8th
and Broad. Mr. Allison asked the commission to take a look to see what could be
done to avoid possible accidents. Signs have now been installed to try to clear up the
confusion at those intersections. A letter will be sent to Mr. Allison with pictures of
the new signs.
State Traffic Report
Chairman Tim Hertel reported to the commission that TXDOT and WFPD are
working on a project to acquire weather sensors for ice detection and for more
cameras.
Unfinished Business
Item 04 -04: Proposed Ordinance — Acceleration
Elaine Bourgoin reported that the proposed ordinance was approved at the
last council meeting. Item closed.
Item 04 -05: Proposed Ordinance — Commission Membership
Elaine Bourgoin reported that the proposed changes to the Commission's
ordinance were approved by council at the last meeting. Item closed.
New Business - None
Items of Discussion
Mr. Ty Walker submitted his letter of resignation due to a job transfer to the
Lubbock area. Chairman Tim Hertel thanked Mr. Walker for his service to the
commission and wished him well in his new endeavors.
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was
adjourned at 2:35 P.M.
