Chairman Tim Hertel called the April meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety
Commission to order at 1:36 p.m.
Brad Altman gave the invocation.
The minutes for the March meeting were approved as written.
The financial reports for March were approved.
Accident Statistics
Lt. R.W. Smith reported that there have been 3 fatality accidents recently. A
motorcyclist was speeding at Maplewood & Midwestern Pkwy. The driver was not
wearing a helmet, hit the curb, and was killed. The second incident was an older man &
child walked in front of an oncoming car. The man was killed and child was injured. This
accident happened on Eastside. The third was a police chase where the motorist ended up
in a drainage canal and was killed. Reviewed statistics for the month and quarter.

City Traffic Report
Mr. Mark Beauchamp reported to the commission that the projects on Lincoln
and Scott are completed. They have also completed the installation of no parking signs on
the south side of Piedmont. Enterprise now has a protected turn signal and the permissive
turn signal has been removed.
State Traffic Report
Chairman Hertel advised the commission that the state has looked at the lighting
problem at the main gate at Sheppard Air Force Base. The street lighting is standard. Mr.
Hertel suggested the base look at possibly installing some accent lighting and trimming
some of the landscaping.
Committee Report from the Public Relations Committee
Mr. Terry Stagg reported that he had contacted all of the schools in his area to let
them know that they could contact him with any concerns that should be brought to the
commission. Mr. Stagg reported that he received a positive response from the schools.

New Business
Item 05 -03: Spring Swim Party
Elaine Bourgoin advised the commission that arrangements have been made
for the swim party for the Safety Patrols from each campus to be held on Thursday, May
26th at the Lucy Park Swimming Pool from 4 to 6 p.m. Drinks and hot dogs will be served.
Assignments were made as follows:
Mark Beauchamp — sign contract at the Parks & Recreation office for rental
of the pool. Mr. Beauchamp will also arrange for the ice.
Don Vann will schedule the different schools so that the pool limit will not be
violated. Mr. Vann will also arrange for the catsup, mustard, and hot dog buns.
Lt. R.W. Smith will arrange to use the cooker and get the hot dogs.
Joe Clement will arrange for the cups and drinks.
Betty Tanner - Shelby will bring coolers.
Elaine Bourgoin will notify the commission members and also send out
reminders. Everyone is needed to help with the project.
