Ms. Williams asked Ms. Hughes for the Librarian's report. Ms. Hughes reported that Staff shortages had forced the closure of the Computer Lab on more than one day. Staff vacations coupled with illness, family emergencies, prior commitments, and the resignation of a Library Assistant created too many schedule holes to fill without impacting a service area. Ms. Hughes said that the Library would need to close for one week beginning September 10 to complete the migration to the new automation software. The Library would be without a system for three days and would need three days to test and become familiar with the new software procedures. During the closure the Staff would be putting all shelves in order and shifting the collection to make room for additional growth. The laying of tile from the entrance to the Circulation Desk is also planned for this time Dr. Snowden assumed Chair duties and with no New Business, called for Old Business. Ms. Hughes presented all Board Members with a copy of the revised Library Advisory Board Handbook published by Texas State Library and Archives Commission. She asked Members to discard their old editions. Councilor Williams asked about the voter registration requirement for Libraries. Ms. Hughes replied that the Library was among the public agencies mandated to provide voter registration cards for the public. This will be a continuing memorial for deceased members who were exemplary volunteers in the various Friends' projects. Beverly Kouri's and Rocky Rocchio's names have been inscribed.
