EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS PRESENT:

Rebecca Morrison, Assistant Administrator /Information Services
Acting Chair Andrea Williams called the meeting to order at 4:20 P.M. She declared a quorum to
be present. The minutes of the October 23, 2001 meeting were approved with the correction that all
members were not present at the meeting; Ms. Harris was absent. Councilor Williams and Dr. Sernoe made
corrections to their information on the Library Advisor Board roster. Ms. Williams called on Ms. Morrison
for the Librarian's Report.
Ms. Morrison reported that although a Librarian I had been hired, another Librarian I had resigned
to accept a much higher paying position in the Harris County Public Library System. The Information
Services Department continues to be short one Librarian. Unfortunately these long -term vacancies in the
Library Assistant/Circulation and Librarian I positions have created major backlogs in other work areas.
Ms. Hughes has closed the Computer Lab until a new Circulation Assistant is hired and trained. The
Reference Desk will be closed on Thursday night until a new Librarian I is hired and trained. The staff
members have filled schedule holes so many times they are maximized on the amount of comp time they
can accrue, and the Library has no overtime budget. Tim Wiseman, Collection Development Manager,
underwent heart surgery and has been out since early November. Hopefully he will be released to return to
work next week. However, his absence has exacerbated the staff shortage problem.
Under Old Business, Ms Morrison reminded the Board that the review of Library policies would
begin in January. Copies of the current policies were handed out.
Ms Morrison reported that the Friends have purchased a new chair for the Library Bookstore. The
monthly 2 for 1 sale on the first Saturday of the month continues to be very popular.
Ms Williams announced that the next meeting of the Library Advisory Board will be January 22,
2002 in the Conference Room at 4:15 PM. The meeting was adjourned at 4:35 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Hughes, Library Administrator
