She declared a quorum to be present. The minutes of the October 22, 2002 meeting were approved as submitted. Ms. Williams called on Ms. Hughes for the Librarian's Report. Ms. Hughes said that the staff is gradually becoming accustomed to the new applications of the recent computer upgrades in both Horizon and city e-mail. During the November closure, staff members weeded some sections of the collection and concentrated on catching up on reading reviews and selecting new materials. She announced that the Library would be closed on Saturday, December 14`s to facilitate a building maintenance project. The Library will close at 5 PM on both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Ms. Hughes has been asked to serve on the Public Libraries Steering Committee by the Texas State Libraries and Archives Commission. The committee will be studying state funding processes and services to public libraries by the State Library. Ms. Hughes urged all Board Members to write a letter or fill out a pre - printed postcard asking their elected state officials to support the reauthorization of TIF, which has been so important in sharing the costs of the Library's technology and public access to the Internet. Ms. Gregg presented the Friends of the Library Report. She said that November had been one of the best months ever for sales in the Book Store. The Friends made a donation to Hospice in memory of Mary Jo Scott, the former coordinator of the Book Store. Ms. Williams then turned the meeting over to Andrew Jelen Genealogy /Adult Services Librarian. Mr. Jelen gave the first in a series of Power Point presentations. The series is being developed to give the Board a clearer understanding of what happens behind the scenes at the library. The first presentation demonstrated how the collection is developed. Ms. Hughes offered a tour of the Technical Services area after the presentation. The Board adjourned at 5:15 PM.
