Ms. Andrea Williams called the meeting to order at 4:25 P.M. A quorum of current members was
present. The minutes of the April 27, 2004 meeting were approved.
In the Librarian's Report, Ms. Hughes said that the summer reading club special programs are
scheduled, calendars are ready, letters have been sent out, and the staff has been briefed on how the
program will operate this year. Both Walmart and Target have generously donated prizes for the
participants. She reported that the Library had decided to expend the remaining Loan Star Libraries funds
on scheduling software that will make it easier to keep all of the important customer services covered. She
said that the new Library sign had been installed on the Southeast corner of the building facing Indiana
Street. She invited Board Members to attend a reception for Jeannine Humphris, Assistant
Administrator /Operations, who is retiring after 39 years of public library service to Wichita Falls. Lesley
Daly will be promoted into Jeannine's position, and Sean Stewart will take Lesley's former duties as
Collection Development Manager. The Library will be seeking a new cataloger to fill Sean's old position.
There are also two new Library Assistants on staff, Kevin Thompson, a former Library Page, and David
Durdaller.
Ms. Williams passed out copies of a list of possible contacts, both individuals and organizations, to
be approached for support and involvement in the Once Community, One Book project. Ms. Williams
requested that all Members look over the list and make additions, or recommend deletions. Ms. Hughes
suggested that at least for the initial year, individuals and organizations located outside the city be
eliminated limiting the project to Wichita Falls. It would be easy to reach out to other communities in the
future if the steering committee so desired, once the project was well established. Ms Williams agreed that
might be best, but did not want to prevent non - residents from participating in the programs if they wished.
Ms. Williams wanted to have the Board distill the list to around 25 to 30 to invite to the initial planning
session. Dr. Semoe expressed concern that there should be a broader base invited to the initial meeting.
Ms. Lambert agreed and felt that initially more was better. Ms. Hughes said she would ask Gabriel Barrera
of Archangel Studios to design and submit possible logos. The group then discussed a slogan for the
project, finally deciding on One Book, One Community: Wichita Falls, Wichita Falls Flows Together
with Reading, and Experience New Worlds: the City (or Wichita Falls) Reads Together to submit for
working into a logo.
Ms. Williams announced the next scheduled meeting of the Library Advisory Board to be
September 28 at 4:15 in the Conference Room. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 PM.
