A quorum of current members was present. The minutes of the August 24, 2004 meeting were approved. Ms. Williams called on Ms. Hughes for the Librarian's Report. Ms. Hughes said that the staff is moving ahead with the plans for the new teen space, using the plan developed by Cynthia Grey, a consultant provided by North Texas Regional Library System ( NTRLS) through a HELP grant. She said that much of the collection will be shifted, and some parts interfiled to create room for the new space. She reported that the videoconference equipment had been installed and was ready for use. The equipment was secured through a grant from the Priddy Foundation to the NTRLS. Enam Haque, new cataloger will begin work October 6. With his hiring, the library is again at full staff. Ms. Hughes reported that when she and Ms. Williams attended the NTRLS System Assembly meeting, a representative of the State Library indicated that unless the exceptional funds part of the State Library's budget was approved by the Legislature, the TexShare databases would disappear in July 2006, or possibly even sooner. Ms. Hughes said this was of grave concern to academic and public libraries across the state, since the databases are the most important service provided by the State Library. Local money will have to be used to purchase access to the most popular databases, if the State Library abandons the project. Ms. Williams asked if the invitations to One Book, One Community organizational meeting on October 11 at 6:30 PM had been mailed. Mr. Jelen said 107 went out today. Ms. Williams wanted it made clear that even though invitations had issued, the meeting was open to any interested citizen. The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing timelines and possible committees, publicity, sponsorships, and tasks to be accomplished. Ms. Williams adjourned the meeting at 5:10 PM and asked that members remain a few minutes to answer questions about the project from Brent Wistrom of the Times Record News.
