The meeting for the Advisory Board was held in the conference room of the Wichita
Falls Health Department at 12:00 pm, on Thursday March 25, 2004.
Those present: Katie Lovelace, Dr. Spears, Eamon Riley, Debbie Mills, and Roy Ressel.
Dr. Spears called the meeting to order. We discussed the tone of the meetings and the
expectation of the proceedings.
The condition of the ARC was discussed. This discussion was based on the findings
from the previous meeting that took place on location.
*Cages were in acceptable condition
*Animals seemed happy
*No standard set of operating procedures on the premises
*Ideally need to expand the injured animal area
The board agreed on establishing a functional set of procedures regarding the daily
operations of the facility.
Several members expressed concern, about the practice of euthanasia on the animals that
were brought to the ARC.
Roy spoke about the concern of standing water in water bowls in the cages.
The members also discussed the contract with the City on accepting animals that had
been picked up as strays. We also discussed the fees that are charged to owners of
reclaimed animals. It was suggested that the City review and raise the fees accordingly.
The SOP was discussed at great length and has been drafted.
The next meeting will be held on April 29, 2004 at 12:00 in the Health Department
conference room. There being no more business the meeting was adjourned at 1:30pm.
