Members Present: Elmer Emory, Peg Marquardt, Brad Rodgers, Penny
Miller, Mary Ward, Sharon Roach, Jan Herzog, William
Hinkle and Gene Strouth.
Members Absent: Alan Donaldson and Dennis Kays.
Staff Present: Jack Murphy and Lisa Jensen
City Council Representative: Lanham Lyne (Absent)
Visitor: Kenny Hanny, Jeff Marion and Charles Boardman.
CALL TO ORDER:
Meeting was called to order at 1:31 p.m. The minutes of April 27, 2006 were put
before the board. Peg Marquardt made the motion to accept the minutes as
written and Penny Miller seconded the motion. Approved unanimously.
Elmer Emory introduced two new members, Sharon Roach and Jan Herzog. Jan is
a teacher and member of the Sierra Club. Sharon has served as a Park Board
member in the past.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
Jack Murphy said there was not a Departmental report but gave a report of what is
going on. Parks has sent a grant to TXDOT for 1.6 million to connect the trail from
Lucy to Lake Wichita.
Budget for the 06 -07 year is being reviewed. There will be a budget workshop for
the 5 year C.I.P. — Capital Improvement Plan.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Discussion and recommendation of a proposed site for a youth skating facility
in south Weeks Park adjacent to Holliday Creek.
The Skate Park is being planned and placed at the old Fun Land on Southwest
Parkway (Weeks Park). Motion was made by William Hinkle to accept the South
Weeks Park location for a skate park and it was seconded by Penny Miller. All
agreed this is a good location. Access to the skate park will be free.
OLD BUSINESS:
Brad Rodgers reported that Lucy Park looks good. Mary Ward said she
appreciated the equipment and other items in the park. Gene Strouth said he was
on the web site and there was no information about renting the stage. Jack
informed him that we were doing a new web page and it would be on there. Elmer
talked about the Park plan and the top five items. The lease agreement committee
has lost several members and their replacements need to be chosen.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Sharon Roach made a comment that there are not enough trash cans on the trail.
She couldn't remember which park. She inquired about this because her friend
who has a dog had no place to put the waste after she had picked it up from the
trail.
Kenny Hanny asked about the progress of the new Recreation Center. Jack said
the location site is the same but there is no further progress at this time.
Elmer Emory announced that the Kiwanis Club is building a new
restroom /concession out at Lake Wichita.
