Library Advisory Board Minutes - 02/28/2006LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES February 28, 2006 MEMBERS PRESENT: Andrea Williams, Chair Dr. Jim Sernoe, Vice Chair Dr. Richard Sutton Nell Lister Alison Reynolds Teresa Wilcox EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS PRESENT: Lesley Daly, Interim Administrator MEMBERS ABSENT: DeDe Chandler Irene Lambert Melinda Brinkley In the Librarian's report Ms. Daly confirmed that the new Young Adult Librarian Deanna Baran has commenced employment and is already heavily involved in creating new programming for both teens and adults alike. Unfortunately, however, there is now another vacancy on staff as one of our four pages gave notice during the week. The annual state report has almost been completed, and once all facts and figures have been compiled, Ms Daly intends to share statistics with the Board. With regard to One Book One Community: Wichita Falls Reads, 34 out of the 38 available copies of The Five People You Meet in Heaven are currently checked out from the library. Ms Williams confirmed that essay contest entry forms have been distributed to local libraries, and that Patricia Costello from Old High is scheduled to appear on both the Joe Tom White show, and on the noon broadcast of KFDX to promote the contest. The City Public Information Office offered a group TV slot during mid- to late March with a view to promoting the idea of local book discussions: Ms. Williams asked for volunteers or suggestions as to who might be willing to appear in a mock televised discussion. It was generally agreed that (numbers permitting) all entries in the essay contest would receive a t- shirt, and that prizes would be determined once the total number of entries is known. Although poster production has been more problematic than anticipated, both Kinko's and Office Depot are going to be approached again within the next few days. It was proposed and agreed that the Board hold a special meeting on Tuesday, March 7, at 4:15 pm in order to ascertain any progress made in certain areas: i.e. posters, website production, and a confirmation of events complete with dates, times and locations. The next regularly scheduled Board meeting will be Tuesday, March 28, at 4:15 pm. Ms. Lister reported that the Friends of the Library have recently lost two members, but have also gained two newcomers, and that they are still much in need of materials donations. The meeting was adjourned at 5:20 pm. Minutes transcribed by Lesley Daly. Minutes approved March 28, 2006. ram-. Andrea Williams, Chair CITY CLERK'S OFFICE Date Ll L04 By 2 _Time : 3
