CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
In the Librarian's Report, Ms. Daly introduced the two newest members of the WFPL :staff to the board. Carolyn
Haines and Johnnie Gardner gave brief descriptions of their jobs and duties, which include cataloging and adult
programming.
Ms Daly reported a successful Spring Break period, during which the Library and the Parks & Recreation
department collaborated to host movie afternoons. Popcorn and lemonade were served to an average of 175 children
and parents each Monday through Friday afternoon, and the relative success of the everut filtered downstairs too,
where the gate count topped 900 at one point (library average is 650).
Ms. Daly also asked for any feedback regarding Library ELF, the e-mail reminder system that can alert patrons
when items are coming due, as well as keep track of multiple cards within a family. Responses were positive, and
the library plans to promote this service further during National Library Week.
New copiers are being delivered to the library within the next month. These will includle 2 colour copiers for staff
use, which is good news!
On a less positive note: the library has been suffering from various `water woes' for the, past week. A leak in the
staff breakroom resulted in the kitchen area being flooded and the entire building being, without water for over 6
hours on Monday, March 26. A temporary fix is in place, with major repairs being planned for the coming
weekend. The ongoing problem area in the Adult Fiction section has also been cause fox more concern due to the
recent rain — the source of the leak has now been located, and building maintenance is hiopeful that they can work
with both the air - conditioning contractors and the roofing contractors to finally get this problem resolved.
The annual Texas Library Association Conference is being held in San Antonio April 1(0 -14, 2007.
Ms. Gardner and Ms. Daly plan to attend as WFPL representatives, and have a full calendar of activities and
sessions planned out.
Nell Lister reported that the Friends of the Library could still use more volunteers as well as books. Ms. Daly
mentioned that she has suggested that the Friends may w. ant to focus their fund- raising tefforts toward the purchase
of a new handicapped scooter. The Library's current Bruno model has been out of comanission for some time now:
it was originally a used donation, and is now in need of major repairs. Board suggestioins included looking at local
medical equipment suppliers to start pricing a replacement, as well as approaching Wal- -Mart and/or Sam's Club to
see if a corporate donation might be forthcoming.
The next meeting is scheduled for April 24, 2007 at 4:15 in the Conference Room.
The meeting adjourned at 5:05 pm.
