In the Librarian's Report, Ms. Daly recapped the events of National Library Week, including the bookmark contest,
the READ poster display, and the introduction of wireless Internet. Dr. Sutton confirmed that the Library
connection does operate with the filter in place, and asked about statistics. This is something to revisit at a later
meeting, as those details are still being worked out with the IS department at City Hall.
Ms Daly reported a successful TLA conference in San Antonio, held April 10 -14.
The Library has recently enjoyed some mini -grant success. The North Texas Regional Library System (NTRLS)
awarded $1125 to be spent on the creation of a new collection, "Book Club To Go" kits. This will enable the
Library to purchase a suitable display rack as well as sturdy cloth bags that house multiple copies of a single title,
together with binders containing suggested discussion questions, details on the author, and other readers' advisory
materials. Circulation details are still being worked out, but it is hoped that this new collection can be introduced
some time in the late summer months. Potential users include not just local book club members, but also, during
monthly visits from library staff, local nursing home residents wishing to join in a book discussion.
Thanks to the generosity and suggestion from a regular library patron, there are now four rolling stools available for
use in the Adult Large Print area. The patron purchased two of the stools, and the Library made a matching
contribution so that patrons scanning the shelves for large print materials are able to do so in relative comfort.
Summer Reading programs are the next event for the Library. All ages are welcome to join in the various programs
on offer, and calendars of events will soon be on display and available for pick -up. Ms. Daly displayed a sample of
the incentives being used to attract adult readers — a flower -pot with a `seed packet' of ideas as to various book titles
to read, as well as a `magic' bean or two. The `magic' of the beans is that they (hopefully!) sprout and grow leaves
bearing "READ" on them.
In the Friends' Report, Nell Lister announced that the Friends of the Library could still use more volunteers as well
as books. To date, there has been no word as to whether the Friends will receive the unsold books from the Wichita
Adult Literacy Council's recent book sale.
The Wichita Falls Reads program is still considering potential titles for a Fall program. The shortlist of books is
gradually being pared down, and a final choice should be made by the end of May.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 22, 2007 at 4:15 in the Conference Room.
The meeting adjourned at 4:55 pm.
