REPRESENTATIVE: Joe Miller, M.D., Wichita County Commissioner WICHITA FALLS CITY COUNCIL: Dorothy Roberts -Burns WICHITA FALLS CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE: MINUTES: Call to Order Greg Stockton, Vice Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. I. Approval of Minutes: Moved by Richard Sutton and seconded by Beverly Stiles that the February 25, 2005 minutes be approved. The motion passed. II. Caring For Children Care Van: Jennifer Moreno: The Center for Disease Control states that one in four Texas children are not immunized on schedule. At present, Texas ranks 42nd in the nation for percentage of immunized children. The purpose of the Care Van is to try to eliminate any barriers that may exist preventing Texas children from receiving their immunizations by primarily targeting the medically underserved /uninsured population. Between 1997 and March 2005, the Care Van has been instrumental in providing immunizations to 168,529 children. There are currently eight vans that provide immunization outreach operations in Texas. The vans are an initiative of the Caring for Children Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Page 1 of 2 t. The Care Van also provides wellness services including obesity awareness, nutrition, blood pressure, glucose, body fat, strength testing and vision screening. There have been several local outreach efforts including Texas Oklahoma Fair, locations at McDonalds and Kate Burgess Elementary School during National Infant Immunization Week, Health Kids Day at Wal -Mart and Kids Fest. There are several programs planned in the future utilizing the Van and hopefully the numbers for immunized Texas children will increase significantly thorough efforts III. Health Addition Update: Reuben Warren Mr. Warren gave a brief overview of the building expansion. Groundbreaking is due to begin the first of July. IV. Personnel Update: Lou Franklin Ms. Franklin gave a brief description of the changes made at the District in Personnel. Lori Morrow, R.N. is now the Director of Nursing Service having transferred from the Communicable Disease Supervisor position. The biggest transfer came from Environmental Health. Roy Ressel retired at the end of May with over 30 years service at the Health District. At that time, the division was divided in to General Environmental Health, which oversees Food Control, Tattoo Parlors, Schools, Swimming Pools, Day Care, etc with Fernando Tezaguic, R.S. as the Coordinator. Susan Morris, R.S. is the Coordinator for Zoonosis.OSSF, which oversees Animal Control, Vector Control and Septic. V. Consider Action on Resolution 175 -98: Mr. Warren announced that recent information made discussion of this item unnecessary. Mr. Warren also stated that Dr. Garrison and Dr. Delizio have resigned from the Board. VI. Next Meeting Date: The next meeting will be held on August 26, 2005. VII. Adjourn: It was moved by Richard Sutton and seconded by Larry Rains that the meeting be adjourned.
