Chairman Mark Beauchamp called the August Traffic Safety Commission meeting
to order at 1:32 p.m.
Trooper Joe Clement offered the invocation.
The financial report and minutes for the June meeting were approved with one
amendment to correct a grammatical error.
Accident Statistics
Elaine Bourgoin presented the accident statistics in Lt. R. W. Smith's absence.
Areas of concern remain fairly constant. The area of Flying J on Jacksboro Hwy. needs
some additional study based on the number of accidents in that location. Any
recommendations are welcome. There were two fatality accidents during this time frame.
One was contributed to driving while intoxicated and the other involved a pedestrian. No
charges were issued against the driver in the pedestrian accident.

City Traffic Report
Chairman Mark Beauchamp advised that the project to widen Lawrence Rd. and
to connect Maplewood with Trade St. is in the bid process now. They are hoping the
construction will begin sometime this year. The markings are now completed at Kemp and
Call Field to try to alleviate some of the confusion in direction of travel from designated
lanes.
State Traffic Report
Mr. Tim Hertel reported that the Direct Connect project has reached the 55%
completion mark. They are about 2 months ahead of schedule at this point.

Unfinished Business
Item 06 -05: Audible Pedestrian Signals
Chairman Beauchamp reported that the request for audible signals for the
downtown area is still being researched. Agenda item to remain open.
New Business
None.
Items of Discussion
Chairman Beauchamp advised that the citizen that had questioned the legality of
the vendors working the streets is not satisfied with the answer from the commission that
the law allows the vendors under permission of permits and legal exceptions. The
commission questioned if there is any information regarding safety issues provided when
the permit is issued. Councilor Rick Hatcher will check further to determine if there is
anything more that could be done at the point of permitting. Agreed add to agenda for the
next commission meeting.
There being no further business before the commission, the meeting was adjourned
at 2:43 P.M.
