Chairman Mark Beauchamp called the October Traffic Safety Commission meeting
to order at 1:30 p.m.
Councilor Rick Hatcher offered the invocation.
Member Charlie Byars asked the commission to offer their congratulations to Capt.
R. W. Smith in recognition of his promotion. Capt. Smith has made numerous
contributions to the commission and will be missed. The commission members recognized
Capt. Smith and wished him well in his new assignment.
The financial report and minutes for the September meeting were approved as
written.

Accident Statistics
Capt. R.W. Smith presented the accident statistics. The department is in the process
of converting their equipment which resulted in limiting the number of reports that could
be populated for this month's meeting. However, the data provided did not indicate any
major accidents for this report period. Driver inattention still shows to be the leading
causative factor in accidents. There have been 2 accidents in the last two weeks at different
locations due to inattention.
City Traffic Report
Chairman Mark Beauchamp advised the commission that the street markings
throughout the city are being changed to the thermoplastic. There are several projects
being worked on within the city and updates will be provided upon completion.
State Traffic Report
None due to Mr. Hertel's absence.

New Business
Item 06 -07: Appointment of Nomination Committee
Chairman Beauchamp appointed Laney Oliver and Tim Turner as the nomination
committee. Elections will be held at the November meeting.
Items of Discussion
Kevin Callahan advised that during the Planning and Zoning Commission he
received a complaint regarding the 6th St. intersection. Chairman Beauchamp advised that
the equipment has been ordered which will improve the traffic flow at the intersection as
well as eliminate some of the confusion in the area.
There being no further business before the commission, the meeting was adjourned
at 2:03 P.M.
