Traffic Safety Commission Minutes - 06/01/2011MINUTES OF THE MEETING FOR THE WICHITA FALLS TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION OF June 1, 2011 MEMBERS PRESENT: Mark Beauchamp David Brock Phil Golden Charles Grady Phil Golden Karl Lillie Laney Oliver Stan Horton Dennis Marquardt Clyde Williford EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS PRESENT: David Rhomer Tx Dot Chris McDonald (SAFB) MEMBERS ABSENT: Charlie Byars (Excused) Tim Turner (Excused) Tony Fulton (Excused) EX- OFFICIO MEMBERS ABSENT Linda Ammons- Councilor- At- Large Phil Golden called the June 1 meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission to order at 1:30 p.m. Members and visitors introduced themselves — no visitors. The minutes were approved for April 2011. No meeting was conducted in May due to no quorum present. The financial report for June was presented by Stan Horton. Balance is $0.00. Accident Statistics: Karl Lillie of WFPD advised the total crashes for May were 223 of which 45 were injury accidents. There have been 3 fatalities this year to date. PAGE 1 City Traffic Report Mark Beauchamp advised not many changes to the report last month except for the following: 1. Kemp and Southwest Pkwy - systems update with new signal controls and upgrading the communications system. Mark advised that the police department has given traffic the full mobil data band which will allow the traffic division to make faster adjustments to needed areas of interest. This will be a total dedicated network for traffic. 2. Regular maintenance programs will begin soon. Due to the high winds, we have experienced some extra maintenance needs. State Traffic Report David Rhomer advised: 1. Hike and Bike trail is still behind schedule but the trail may be Committee Reports Unfinished Business: complete in a month. 2. The new ADA ramps have been installed in several areas of town and are completed. 3. Maplewood lighting project will consist of replacing 8 fixed luminaries with breakaway braces. This will take about six weeks. 1. "Safe Routes to School ": Mark Beauchamp advised the project is in the design stage now and should be let next summer. The City has met all their requirements and is ready to proceed. 1. Item 03 -10: Cell Phone Texting While Driving — No new information added at this time. This has been tabled until 2011 to see what legislative action is taken. 2. Item 01 -11 TCS: Bicycle Rodeo — Mark Beauchamp advised that the 2011 Bicycle Rodeo was a huge success. The TSC has been asked to do another one in 2012. Two bikes donated by AMR ambulance service were given away. New safety helmets were given to all participants. Laney Oliver had the honor of delivering the bikes to their new owners. She advised they were very happy and it was beneficial not only to TSC but to the citizens of our community. PAGE 2 New Business: David Brock brought up the ongoing problem of truck drivers at Love's truck stop taking up both lanes of traffic when turning. Some accidents have been reported in this area in the past. David advised he feels this is a dangerous area for small cars that may be in assigned lanes but not seen by the drivers. Mark Beauchamp advised future plans are in the works for a major restructure for this area. It is unknown at this time what changes will be made. Items of Discussion: Mark Beauchamp advised he has received a complaint about the intersection of Callfield and Lawrence Rd being a danger. Mark advised all lights are working properly. No accidents statistics were available to support this complaint. There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
