Dennis Marquardt called the August 1 meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety
Commission to order at 1:30 p.m.
The minutes were approved for June 2012.
The financial report for August was presented by Stan Horton Balance was $171.50
Accident Statistics:
Karl Lillie of WFPD advised the total crashes for June 2012 were 280 of which 49
were injury accidents and 1 fatality. There have been 3 fatalities for 2012.
City Traffic Report
Mark Beauchamp advised all projects are about the same but in different stages.
1. Doug Wooster advised that flags have been placed at Hampsted and
Hamilton street for an awareness project as complaints have been
made about citizens failing to stop at this intersection. Charles Grady
advised he had noticed the flags and were very effective. Also
looking to expand the LED light program possibly in the downtown
area as well as Kemp.
2. Doug also advised several speed studies had been conducted
throughout the city and the recommended changes were soon to go
before Council for approval. Some school speed zones will be effected
if this passes.
State Traffic Report
Glenn Allbritton
1.
Movement of the existing exit ramp at Kell and Fairway is over
and the ramp is open. The project should be finished soon.
2.
The new 75 mph speed limit signs are being installed in the
appropriate areas. Other roads may be included after studies
have been completed.
3.
High mast illumination replacement at 281/287 intersection has
a contractor and will began around the 17th of August.
4.
Windthorst Rd bridge project has let and should start in
September.
5.
Safe Routs to School will let in March of next year.
6.
Bridge repair will began soon at the Hammond Rd overpass. It
was struck by a vehicle and damaged.

Items of Discussion:
Phil Golden expressed an interest in another study by traffic to look at
the intersection of Sheppard Access Rd and Airport drive. Phil advised he has had more
than one close call at this intersection.
