Dennis Marquardt called the September 5th meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic
Safety Commission to order at 1:30 p.m.
The minutes were approved for August 2012.
The financial report for September was presented by Stan Horton Balance was
$171.50
Accident Statistics:
Karl Lillie of WFPD advised the total crashes for June 2012 were 266 of which 52
were injury accidents and 1 fatality. There have been 4 fatalities for 2012.
City Traffic Report
Mark Beauchamp advised
1. They were back in the maintenance stages as of this date. After which they will
start system upgrades adding new control systems.
2. Mark advises he has helped the Health Department prepare and distribute over
5000 flyers for the Safe Walk Campaign which also coincides with the Safe
Routs to School program.
3. Safe Routs will go out for bids in March 2013
4. 287/281 High mast lighting replacement
5. Callfield Lawrence realignment will by Thanksgiving 2012.
6. Downtown Transit hub will start in the near future.
7. Speed Limit ordnances were passed and new signs will be in place soon.
State Traffic Report
Glenn Allbritton
1. Movement of the existing exit ramp at Kell and Fairway is over
and the ramp is open. The project should be finished soon.
2. High mast illumination replacement at 281/287 intersection has
a contractor and will began around the 17th of August.
3. Windthorst Rd bridge project has let and should start in
September.
4. Hammond Rd Bridge has been repaired and is open.
5. Bridge repair will began soon at the Hammond Rd overpass. It
was struck by a vehicle and damaged.
6. Sheppard Access rd. and Airport has been made a four way
stop.
Unfinished Business:
None.
New Business: Yvette Eipper and Crystel Morgan from the Health Department visited
with the TSC in reference to joining effort to have more bicycle rodeos and to allow the
TSC to act as partners in this venture. This will not only help our community but assist the
Safe Routs program that we are already involved in. Plans were discussed to assist in an
upcoming event.
Also October is a national Walk To School Day. Discussion was had in reference to
participating in this even with short notice.
Mark Beauchamp and Andy Kocher advised they were willing to organize something so
we could participate this year.
