CALL TO ORDER:
Alan Donaldson called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm. Scott McGee, Recreation
Superintendent, introduced the Recreation Departments new Amateur Athletic
Coordinator, Travis Pence, to the Park Board.
The election for officers for the coming year was conducted. Alan Donaldson was
nominated for Chairperson, Penny Miller was nominated for Co- Chairperson, and
Stephen Priester was nominated for Secretary. The vote was unanimous to re-
elect ail.
The minutes of December 2, 2010 meeting were put before the Board. Ben Filer
made the motion to accept the minutes and Penny Miller seconded the motion.
Minutes were approved.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORT:
1. The City Basketball League is going well including the Women's Basketball
league.
2. Spring Softball Coaches managers meeting is set for Monday, January 31St.
3. 50 + Zone Casino Trip scheduled for January 2e. We have over 3,000
members and the highest daily attendance was last week with 500.
4. Recreation has 31 classes, which are full to capacity. Recreation classes
are run by Amy McKim, Program Coordinator.
5. Construction is continuing on the 2.9 Holliday Creek section of the Circle
Trail that will connect two six mile sections. Completion will be in April.
6. Grant funding awarded by TXDOT for 3.5 additional miles of the Circle Trail
along Barnett Road & Seymour Highway with completion expected in 2012.
Bids go out in July.
7. It was ask if Jack Murphy knew the timeline for completion of trail from
Lake Wichita Park to Barnett Road. At this time there is no money
identified for this section, however, we do have unused money
appropriated for Holliday Creek Circle Trail section that could be used.
Staff recommends going ahead and purchasing the right of way from Lucy
Park the Wichita Bluff Open Space. Also, the City needs to get permission
from BNSF railroad to use their ROW. The boundary survey of Lake
Wichita needs to be complete before the lake Circle Trail section can be
built.
8. It was ask if the Trail Plan was on the Cities Web site and the answer was
yes it is.
9. New siding was installed on the tennis center buildings in Hamilton and
Weeks Park Tennis Centers.
10. The new fountain has been installed at the South Weeks Park Pond, and it
looks like the gazebo will be installed on top of the hill sooner than
expected.
11. The Park Board approved 4B projects off Lake Wichita shore and the Off
Leash Dog Park will begin this spring.
12. Water Mill Landscape will be completed this Winter at the
Lawrence /Maplewood intersection.
13. The landscape and irrigation for the new Animal Services Center on Hatton
Road was done by the Parks Department and the dedication for the Animal
Services Center will be on Monday, January 318t.
14. Replacement of 200 -300 trees proceeding, tree mulch is being spread
around the trees, and flower maintenance is being performed to keep them
looking good.
1S. A living fence planning program has been in effect for several years along
the backyards and allies next to parks including Kiwanis Park, Loch
Lomand Park, Edgemere Park, and Lamar Park. No objections to continued
planted were noted after discussion regarding two recent complaints from
adjacent property owners.
OLD BUSINESS:
No Park Improvement Committee meeting this month.
NEW BUSINESS:
No new business.
OTHER ITEMS:
There was discussion on the different types of wild life that have been sighted
along the Circle Trail and at the Weeks Park golf course.
