Librarian's report:
Ms. Daly reported that several staff members will be absent just prior to the start of Summer Reading on May 31, but should all be
back and well- rested, ready to face the summer crowds.
The theme of this year's Summer Program is "Dig up a good book ". Ms.Daly distributed calendars (attached) to illustrate the variety
of activities and events that will be on offer. TargetOO has again been an extremely generous sponsor of the reading program this year,
providing boxed crayons and the buckets that will be given out as incentives. The buckets will be given as a reward for reading for 10
hours: Children reading 20 hours will receive a filled pencil pouch, and children reading for 30 hours or more will receive a free book
of their choosing.
There is a lot of uncertainty regarding state funding for the next fiscal year. Ms. Daly and other staff will be attending several planned
meetings during the summer months to try and determine how anticipated budget cuts will affect Wichita Falls Public Library. The
State Library System will most likely be undergoing dramatic changes in terms of structure and services: of immediate interest is the
future of North Texas Regional Library System.
The Annual Public Library Report for FY 2010 has been returned and flagged with regard to the number of hours that the library is
currently open to the public. Ms. Daly will be working with the State Library to determine what action needs to be taken to rectify the
situation, and what possible ramifications the library will face.
Arthur Bea Williams asked if there were any above line items from the library for the new fiscal year. Ms. Daly confirmed that the
library will be requesting funds to install credit /debit card acceptance software as an above line item. Two other significant purchases
that have been included in the regular budget request are for equipment replacement, namely security cameras and the Pharos traccard
hardware that facilitates public printing.
Friends Report: Jenny Bechtold detailed purchases made by the Friends for the upcoming summer reading program. In addition to
booklights and pencil pouches, the Friends will also be providing coupons for free books from the bookstore to program participants.
The Friends will be selling children's books at the various programs throughout the summer, and are also planning to host an Alice in
Wonderland tea party in July. A silent auction of Alice- related items will begin July 1, and the Friends are hopeful that considerable
fiends can be raised.
There being no further business, the meeting was a rned at 5:06 pm.
ex neeting: September 20, 2011, 4:15 pm — duf to Su nmer Watus.
