A quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 4:17 pin.
Librarian's report:
Ms. Daly reported that WFPL had just hosted a North Texas Library Partners' (NTLP) regional meeting. Several staff were in
attendance, as well as librarians from Burkburnett, Bowie, and Nocona. The news is generally positive, with NTLP seeing a lot of
North Texas libraries willing to pay partnership dues and continue collaborative efforts with regards to continuing education,
discounts, networking opportunities, and advocacy.
Ms. Daly outlined upcoming library programs and workshops: The annual Midwinter session of the American Library Association
(ALA) is being held in Dallas next year, from Jan 20 -23 2012. Since the event is being held over a weekend, staff are planning to
carpool and drive to the Convention center to visit the various exhibit and vendor booths. In March, ALA's Public Library group will
be hosting its biannual meeting to be held in Philadelphia. WFPL has budgeted for one staff member to attend this event, and for
another individual to attend the annual Texas Library Association conference in Houston in April.
New security cameras have been installed: the updated equipment replaces cameras that have been in place for over nine years.
The Library should be ready for credit /debit card acceptance by Thanksgiving week. Tests have gone well, and staff will be shown
the website and procedures before the system is fully `turned on'.
Friends Report: Alan Martin noted that the Friends are planning a book sale in Room 205 on Friday December 2 from 5 -8pm, and on
Saturday from 10- 2:30pm.
Old Business: Food for Fines has been notably slower than last year, but cans are still coming in as patrons choose to make that
donation in lieu of paying late fines.
New Business: Staff have had the opportunity to `test drive' a new software program specifically designed to organize library winter
and summer reading programs. Evanced Solutions has offered a free demo that we plan to implement for our upcoming winter
reading program, which will be `Chill out and Read!'. Children, teens and adults will be asked to read various numbers of books and
will receive incentives for tunring in logs or completing brief reviews. The program will run from January 3, 2012 through February
29, 2012.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:10 pm.
Next meeting: December 20, 2011, 4:15 pm
