Commission on Human Needs Minutes - 06/20/2005 RECEIVED IN CITY CLERK'S OFFICE� Commission On Human Needs Date 6/7` 0 obi -e6 June 20,2005 By Mj(i Time /:3-57491 Minutes of the meeting Today's meeting is a regularly scheduled meeting of the Human Needs Commission. The meeting was convened in the City of Wichita Falls Council Conference Room. Attendance was as follows: Those in attendance: Absent: Dennis Marquardt(Chair) Brent Walker Katherine Phillips(Co-Chair) Ronnie Sanders Pat Haywood Teresa Ramos Sylvester Shed Excused: Donna Pipper Sheldon Johnson 1. Call to Order: Item 1. Mr. Marquardt called the commission to order at 5:10pm. 2. Old Business: Item 1.Committee on Aging and Disabled: Ms. Haywood reported that a meeting was held with John Vasquez from the WF Police Department dispatch office. The meeting was to get input from the WFPD about setting up a way to identify disabled and/or elderly adults when an emergency called is received. At the current time, there no not a policy that helps identify this information. Mr. Vasquez is very excited about working with Ms. Haywood and her committee on this venture. A form will have to be developed to help gather the needed information on an individual; after which it will be enter into a database. It was suggested that Ms. Haywood contact Ft. Worth to see if they have a similar form in place. Ms. Haywood will be working with Mr. Vasquez and Lisa Adkins the communication director. A tour of the dispatch area will be held on July 18th at noon, everyone is welcome. Next project will be to expand city bus routes to Kell West, City View,and Sunset terrace. Commission on Human Needs(continued) Item 2.Committee on the Status of Women: Ms. Ramos reported that an October seminar on family violence is being planned. More information will come in the next months. Item 3.Human Needs Committee: Letter of collaboration was given to Mr. Goodrich for Mayor's signature. Homeless coalition is going on schedule. A shelter count will be held on this month. In December a homeless count will be held. The goal of the coalition is to provide transition long term housing. As it stands now, Salvation Army and Faith Mission are short term housing; this new homeless shelter will be for long term up to one year. During this one year, individual will work on getting out of the homeless situation they are in. Item 4.Committee on Youth: No report. 3. New Business: Item 1.We have had several members resign or are not attending the meetings, will have to recruit new members this commission. 4. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded. The motion to adjourn was unanimous. The committee adjourned at 5:45. 5.
