Commission on Human Needs Minutes - 11/18/2002 Commission on Human Needs . z' `O3 November 18, 2002 Minutes of the meeting Today's meeting is a regularly scheduled meeting of the Human Needs Commission. The meeting was convened in the City of Wichita Falls Council Conference Room. Attendance was as follows: Those in attendance: City Staff: Penny Miller Dave Goodrich Cheryl Bownds Rita Vokes Katherine Phillips Dennis Marquardt Becky Meadows Jeff Pixler Sylvesta Shed Pat Haywood Keith Cupples Brent Walker 1. Call to Order: Item 1. Ms. Penny Miller called the commission to order at 5:07 p.m. The September 1e Minutes were approved as corrected. The following items were discussed: 2. Old Business: No old business was pending. 3. Committee Reports: Item 1. Committee on Disabled. The meeting of the committee will be held this coming Friday. It is anticipated that the committee will receive the needs assessment of families with disabled children at that time. Item 2. Status of Women/Human Needs. The committee is continuing its efforts to promote an awareness of domestic violence in the community. Special efforts are being made to reach the minority communities. Ms. Bownds received the material on the committees previous minutes and documentation. 4. New Business: Item 1. The Commission set 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Log Cabin in Lucy Park at the time and place for their annual workshop. Additional information will be forth coming concerning this workshop. Item 2. Ms. Phillips requested that something be done about the drug selling activities that are occurring on Sullivan Street just across from the Eastside Boys and Girls Club. Ms. Phillips stated that the activity is done openly and makes taking the children outside to their garden unsafe. It was agreed to ask a representative of the Police Department to the February Commission meeting to discuss the law enforcement activities in Eastside. It was also suggested that local Neighborhood Watch Organizations could become involved in the identification and eradication of crime in the neighborhood. Item 3. The Commission agreed not to meet during December due to the Christmas Holidays. 5. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded. The motion to adjourn was unanimous. The committee adjourned at 5:42 p.m. 6.
