Minutes of the meeting
Today's meeting is a regularly scheduled meeting of the Human Needs Commission.
The meeting was convened in the City of Wichita Falls Council Conference Room.
Attendance was as follows:

1. Call to Order:
Item 1. Ms. Penny Miller called the commission to order at 5:09 p.m. The
July 15th minutes were approved without exception. The
following items were discussed:
Item 2. Ms. Rita Vokes informed the commission that the information
provided at the last commission meeting concerning the timing of a
future forum for this coming fall was in error. There will be a
future forum but the date for this event has not been set.
Item 3 The Commissioned welcomed two visitors to the Commission.
Mr. Keith Cupples introduced Rev. Sylvesta Shed and Ms. Vokes
introduced her guest Becky Grimaud, the new director of First
Step. The Commission members present introduced themselves.
(NOTE: Both Rev. Shed and Ms. Grimaud submitted applications
to become members of the Commission on Human Needs.)
2. Old Business:
No old business was pending.

3. Committee Reports:
Item 1. Committee on Disabled. After consideration, it was decided that
there was not enough time in which to prepare for a forum in
September. The Committee determined that their first project
should be a needs assessment that will be given to parents and
educators of children with disabilities. The goal of having this
needs assessment distributed to area schools by September 24th
was established. It will also be available at a PATH workshop on
October 19th at Region IX.
Other topics discussed by the Committee were:
• Development of a slide presentation;
• Tour of area employment opportunities for the disabled;
• Presentation to Personnel Management groups; and,
• Development of public service announcements.
Item 2. Status of Women/Human Needs. The Joint Committee meeting
next on August 21, at 11:45 p.m. at the Place. Work is continuing
on publicity and efforts continue to be made to provide information
on domestic violence to those population groups that may have not
been the focus of past education efforts.
Item 3. Committee on Aging. No report.
4. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded.
The motion to adjourn was unanimous. The committee adjourned at 5:36 p.m.
5. The next meeting will be held September 16, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. in the City
Council Conference room.
