This evening's meeting was a special meeting of the Human Needs Commission. Its
primary purpose was to make committee assignments and establish calendar year 2002
commission and committees' goals. The meeting was convened in the Log Cabin in
Lucy Park. Attendance was as follows:

1. Call to Order:
Item 1.The commission was called to order by Ms Penny Miller at 5:50 p.m. The
roll was called and new members present were introduced:
2.New Business:
Item 1. Election of the Commission's Vice-Chairperson and Secretary. Elected as
Vice Chairperson was Mr. Dennis Marquardt and Mr. Kirby Haskins was elected
as Secretary. Penny Miller will remain as the Chair of the Commission as this
position is appointed by the City Council.

Item 2:Dave Goodrich gave a short presentation on the history of the
Commission. He pointed out that the Commission had originally been formed by
the combination of four separate commissions since the four commissions tended
to be concerned about the same issues. He also addressed the need for the
Chairperson to be the only person who could speak for the Commission as a
whole. Additionally, while staff can proved some assistance, the Commission
like all other City commissions does not have a budget.
Item 3. All commission members were asked to decide which of the individual
groups they would want to work. Also, they were tasked to review previous last
year's goals and develop goals for their chosen committee for calendar year 2002.
The commission reviewed and approved the following committee assignments
and Goals for 2002.

Committee Assignment: Prioritized Calendar Year 2002 Goals:
Chairperson: Kay Geuirn 1. Review United Way needs
Kirby Haskins assessment findings.
Cheryl Bownds of services for the aged.
Steve Young 2. Forum with Community
Organization Leaders to
review needs.
3. Focus on Transportation.
Committee on the Disabled-
Committee Assignment: Prioritized Calendar Year 2002 Goals:
Chairperson: Pat Haywood 1. To complete the pamphlet
Mary Ward on Resources for the
Veronica Moody Disabled and take that
Earlene Bingham information and prepare
PSA's and a website with it.
2. To Develop Two Forums
focusing on the concerns of
those with disabilities.

Item 1.There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made and
seconded. The motion to adjourn was unanimous. The committee adjourned at
7:55 P.M.
Item 2.The next meeting will be held on 18 February at 5:PM in the City Council
Conference Room.
