Today' s meeting is a regularly scheduled meeting of the
Commission on Human Needs . ' The meeting was convened .in the
City of Wichita Falls' Council Conference Room. Attendance
is as follows :

Ms . Heather Gibbons, Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital
Call to Order:
Item 1: The Commission was called to order by the
Chairperson, Ms . Penny Miller at 5: 00 p.m.
There were no March meeting minutes because
there wasn' t a quorum. February' s meeting
minutes were reviewed and unanimously
approved without correction by a motion from
the floor. The following items were
discussed during the meeting:
1 . OATH OF OFFICE:
Item 1: The Oath of Office was administered to four
Commission members who previously had not
taken the oath.
2 . Guest Speaker:
Item 1 : Ms . Heather Gibbons of Healthsouth
Rehabilitation Hospital of Wichita Falls
presented an informative discussion on
Healthsouth' s speakers' bureau, and a
summary/purpose statement for each of its
support groups . Members of its speakers'
bureau are knowledgeable in a wide variety
of health related subjects . They' re
available for speaking engagements upon
request. Healthsouth sponsors the support
groups as an outreach for the public. The
schedules for the support groups are
published in local newspaper. Telephone
720-5700 or 1800-452-9578 for more
information about these support groups .
3. Old Business:
Item 1 : Committee on Aging. No report .
Item 2 : Committee on the Disabled. Ms . Jackson
reported that her committee had met and was
gathering information to develop the
pamphlet on local support groups for the
disabled.
Item 3 : Committee on the Status of Women. Ms . Vokes
said her committee' s report on decreasing
Wichita Falls' Teen pregnancy rate was
submitted and approved through appropriate
channels . She said her committee would now
focus on its goal of combating domestic
violence.
Item 4 : Committee on Human Needs . Ms . Phillips said
her committee had a very productive
brainstorming session on the 12th of April.
More details on race related study circles
and other events would be announced in the
new future

4 . Other Business:
Item 1: Mr. Goodrich gave each member present a copy
of the City' s new orientation handbook on
Boards and Commission. He requested each
member become familiar with the handbook.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was
made and seconded. The motion to adjourn was approved
unanimously. The Commission adjourned at 6: 05 p.m.
The next meeting will be held on May 15 at 5: 00 p.m. in the
City Council Conference Room.
