The August meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called to
order by Clyde Williford at 1:40 P.M.
Henry Oliver gave the invocation.
Mr. Williford introduced Councilor Linda Ammons and welcomed her to the
commission. Commission members introduced themselves.
The financial report and minutes for the June meeting were approved as written.
The accident statistics were circulated for review.

City Traffic Report
Mr. John Burrus reported that his department is gearing up for school to begin.
The city now has 13 school crossing guards. Mr. Burrus reported that the traffic flow has
greatly improved since the opening of the north bound elevated traffic. He also reported
that the construction on Kell is proceeding well.
State Traffic Report
Mr. Tim Hertel reported that the overhead project should be completed by
December 2001.
Unfinished Business
Item 01-01: Hill Request •
Mr. Burrus reported that the trails are under construction. Item to remain
open.
Item 01-02: Public Service Announcements
Item to remain open.
Item 01-04: Speedway/Harrison Traffic Controls
Item to remain open. Mr. Burrus reported that they are waiting for school to
begin before they make the traffic study.
Item 01-07: Safety Patrol Incentives/Training
Item to remain open due to Trooper Clement's and Don Vann's absence.
New Business
None.
Items of Discussion
Mr. Henry Oliver reported that the area of Pearlie Dr. & Burk Rd. (Circle K
location) is very congested and confusing. John Burrus and Clyde Williford will check to
determine if anything can be done to alleviate the problem.
Ms. Patsy Walls with the Texas Department of Transportation discussed a program
called Texas SuperCyclist Project that is funded by the Texas Bicycle Coalition Education
Fund, Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Public Safety, and
Subaru of America, Inc. The program is being presented to local teachers and they will
train their classes on the proper bicycle rules.
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was
adjourned at 2:25 P.M.
