Jim Zillweger Councilor Dan Shine VISITORS Robert Powers -Assistant City Manager Larry Blowers - Wichita Falls Transit Administrator The May meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called to order by Chairman Jody Wade at 1:35 P.M. Trooper Joe Clement gave the invocation. Page 1 ffi Chairman Wade welcomed the commission members, Mr. Robert Powers,Assistant City Manager and Mr. Larry Blowers, Wichita Falls Transit Administrator to the meeting. The financial report and minutes for the April meeting were approved as written. The accident statistics were not available due to Lt. Lillie's absence. City Traffic Report- none due to Mr. Burrus' absence. State Traffic Report Mr. Clyde Williford reported that the Kell overhead connection might possibly move ahead of the Kell extension. Kell East to 287 South constncction may begin this summer depending on the funding. Unfinished Business Item 01-01: Hill Request Item to remain open for update from Lt. Karl Lillie. Item 01-02: Item to remain open. Elaine Bourgoin will coordinate with the Public Information office and Patsy Walls to check on the possibility of airing PSA's on Channel 11. New Business Item 01-04: Speedway/Harrison Traffic Controls Item to remain open due to Mr. Burrus' absence. Item 01-05: City Bus Shelters Commission members shared their views with Assistant City Manager Robert Powers and Wichita Falls Transit Administrator Larry Blowers. Most locations were satisfactory. The location at Walmart on Lawrence Road was a safety concern due to the traffic on Lawrence Rd. The commission suggested that the city contact Walmart to determine if they would allow the bus shelter to be placed on their property at the front entrance. The city bus now delivers people to the front door. The proposal would be beneficial to both the city and Walmart. Mr. Powers agreed they would contact Walmart. Mr. Powers thanked the commission for reviewing the locations and their suggestions. Item closed. Item 01-06: Scott/Kell Intersection Elaine Bourgoin reported that John Burrus has requested funding for this intersection in next year's budget. Nothing can be done without funding. Item closed. V Page 2 • } Items of Discussion Trooper Joe Clement requested that the safety patrol incentive and training be added to next month's agenda. Chairman Wade reminded everyone that the spring safety patrol swim party is scheduled for Thursday,May 24 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Sand Beach. Everyone's help is needed. The assignments for preparations were made as follows: Lt. Karl Lillie-arrange for cooker and wieners Trooper Joe Clement- drinks- Don Vann - buns and condiments John Burrus-ice Elaine Bourgoin - cups and reminder notices MSgt. Jim Zillweger-volunteers There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 2:30 P.M.
