Page 1 The financial report and minutes for November were accepted and approved as written. The accident statistics were circulated for review. Elaine Bourgoin provided statistics for tickets issued at the area of Fairway & Kell East& West. The numbers are not comprehensive due to the way the tickets are issued using variables for the offense location. However, the numbers indicate that officers are working the area for traffic violations. John Burrus will run a three-year profile on accidents that have occurred in that area for the February meeting. City Traffic Report Mr. John Burrus reported that the city departments are still recovering from the winter weather replacing signs and poles. They estimate it will take another two weeks to complete the recovery operation. The traffic department is also still evaluating the area of Castle and Missile Road for viable options to improve safety in the area. State Traffic Report Mr. Clyde Williford advised that their department is still recovering from the winter weather as well. They are doing damage assessments at this time. The overhead is still running ahead of schedule even though they lost time due to the weather conditions. Unfinished Business Item 00-04: Commission Workshop Commission voted to hold a workshop in the near future to address goals and objectives for the year. John Burrus and Elaine Bourgoin will coordinate the items to be addressed. Each commission member should give their requests to John or Elaine or bring them to the February meeting for scheduling. Item to remain open. Item 00-05: Fall Safety Patrol Activity Trooper Joe Clement reported that the skate party for the safety patrol students was cancelled due to the winter weather. The party can be rescheduled for Wednesday,January 17,2001 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Skate Whirl on Jacksboro Hwy. The arena is large enough to accommodate 400 children enabling the commission to hold the party all on one night rather than splitting it up as done in the past. They will allow drinks to be brought in. The commission approved the date to be rescheduled. Joe Clement will make the necessary reservations and arrange for the drinks. John Burrus will arrange for the ice. Elaine Bourgoin will secure the cups. Don Vann will notify the different campuses. MSgt. Jim Zillweger will arrange for military volunteers to assist with the party. Commission members were encouraged to attend to help with the party due to the large number of children anticipated. Item to remain open. New Business None. Page 2 Items of Discussion Mrs. Ruth Hill addressed the commission on the area of Castle and Missile Rd. where her daughter was recently killed in a traffic accident. Mrs. Hill explained the demographics of the area and specified problems that effect the children that attend John Tower Elementary School. Mrs. Hill explained that a/o December 2000, 700 children attend that school and 243 children in the two-mile radius do not have transportation to school. They either walk or ride their bicycles. Mrs. Hill requested the commission take a look at the area to try to provide better safety measures for the children. She specifically wishes to look at the possibility of trails, crosswalks, signs, sidewalks, and speed limits in the area. Jody Wade advised Mrs. Hill that her request would be added to the February meeting as an agenda item. Chairman Wade requested that John Burrus arrange a city bus to take the commission members on a tour of the area during the February meeting to become better acquainted with the requests being made and possible solutions. Trooper Joe Clement also invited Mrs. Hill to attend one of the training sessions on safety that he teaches in the various schools. The sessions are offered to all schools and taught by either Trooper Clement or a city police officer. Mrs. Hill thanked the commission for their considerations and will plan to attend the February meeting. There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 2:50 P.M.
