Traffic Safety Commission Minutes - 11/01/2000 LA) MINUTES OF THE MEETING FOR THE WICHITA FALLS TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION OF NOVEMBER 1, 2000 MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Brad Altman Henry Oliver John Burrus Don Vann - excused Ronnie Awtry Elaine Bourgoin Lt. Brad Hardin -Wichita Falls Police Dept. The November meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called to order by Chairman Ronnie Awtry at 1:32 P.M. Elaine Bourgoin gave the invocation. The financial report and minutes for October were accepted and approved as written. FiCEI---VED�t Page 1 CITY CLERKS OFFICE Date 1) I ID510 By The accident statistics were circulated for review. Lt. Karl Lillie discussed the current top 10 accident areas. Lt. Lillie reported that there were two fatality accidents during the month of October that are being studied carefully. Jody Wade requested statistics be available for tickets issued at the intersections of Fairway and Kell East and Kell West. That area has been on the top 10 accident areas for several months. Elaine Bourgoin will run the reports to have for the January meeting. City Traffic Report Mr. John Burrus reported that the city departments are looking closely at the area of Castle and Missle Rd. to determine what options are available to try to reduce problems and hopefully avoid future accidents. Currently there are no crosswalks due to the demographics of the area. State Traffic Report Mr. Davis Powell reported that currently the state is working with ITS (Integrated Traffic Study) to try to tie all areas together including Sheppard Air Force Base. The study also includes ice detectors to alert area cities of weather conditions. Unfinished Business Item 00-04: Commission Workshop Held until January meeting. Item 00-05: Fall Safety Patrol Activity Trooper Joe Clement reported that Skatewhirl on Jacksboro Hwy.will charge a flat rate of$300 for 2 hours of skating for an unlimited number of children. The arena is large enough to accommodate 400 children enabling the commission to hold the party all on one night rather than splitting it up as done in the past. They will allow drinks to be brought in. Elaine Bourgoin motioned that the expenditures be approved and the . + party be held at Skatewhirl this year. The commission voted to approve the item. The dale for the party is scheduled for Wednesday, December 136, from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. Joe Clement will make the necessary reservations and arrange for the drinks. John Burrus will arrange for the ice. Elaine Bourgoin will secure the cups and mail out reminder notices. Don Vann will notify the different campuses. MSgt. Jim Zillweger will arrange for military volunteers to assist with the party. Commission members were encouraged to attend to help with the party due to the large number of children anticipated. Item to remain open. New Business Item 00-06: Appointment of Nomination Committee Brad Altman and Jody Wade made the nominations for the 2001 officers as: Jody Wade as chairman and Brad Altman as co-chairman. Item closed. Page 2 Item 07-00: Election of Officers The commission approved and appointed Jody Wade as Chairman and Brad Altman as co-chairman for 2001. Items of Discussion Joe Clement requested that the state take a look at the signs on the expressway in the construction areas. Suggested that signs designating the correct lane of travel be used to try to avoid unsafe lane changes in the already congested areas. Mr. Powell will review the area for possible enhancements. Brad Altman suggested that the stripes be repainted at the intersection of Kell and northbound 287. Mr. Powell will take a look at that area. Chairman Ronnie Awtry commended the commission for progress completed in the past year and thanked the commission for the opportunity to serve as chairman. There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 2:28 P.M. .
