VISITORS
The September meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called
to order by Chairman Ronnie Awtry at 1:30 P.M.
Elaine Bourgoin gave the invocation.
The financial report and minutes for May were accepted and approved as written.

The accident statistics were circulated for review. Lt. Karl Lillie discussed the
current top 10 accident areas. Officers are being assigned to work those areas to try to
reduce the number of accidents.
City Traffic Report
Mr. John Burrus reported that the City Council has approved funding for
the next fiscal period for projects to improve traffic controls. Projects to be funded are on
overhauls of traffic lights at Kemp & Callfield, Taft & Midwestern, Eastside & Jefferson,
and Eastside & Lincoln. Mr. Burrus also reported that the city and state have been
conducting traffic studies at 160 intersections within the city. Recommendations have been
made for the signals to be removed and 4 way stops be installed at 10`h and Lamar and 10`h
and Scott.
State Traffic Report
Mr. Clyde Williford reported that numerous roads are still under construction in
the city. Funding is being considered for pending projects.

New Business
Item 00-04: Commission Workshop
Elaine Bourgoin suggested to the commission that a workshop be held to
address goals and projects that the commission would like to work on for the upcoming
year. Commission members agreed that a workshop would be beneficial and will bring
ideas for discussion to the October meeting for planning purposes. The workshop will be
scheduled for a later date after determination is made to the time allotments required.
Items of Discussion
Don Vann reported to the commission that the safety patrols were
appreciative of the vests that were purchased through the commission. Mr. Vann also
suggested that the commission begin thinking about the upcoming safety patrol activities.
Mrs. Bourgoin added that Trooper Clement has requested that the item be added to the
agenda for the next meeting.
Mr. John Burrus reported that one electronic sign was requested in the
budget request. However, he does not know if the item has been approved. He will check
and report back to the commission at the next meeting.
