Jim Ziliweger VISITORS The May meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called to order by Mr. Bob Parker at 1:40 P.M. Mr. Don Vann gave the invocation. The financial report and minutes for April were accepted and approved as written. The accident statistics were circulated for review. Page 1 City Traffic Report Mr. Bob Parker reported the city's annual striping project is underway. The traffic department has been monitoring the traffic flow near both of the new Walmart locations. The traffic on Lawrence Rd. has actually improved with the installation of the turn lanes into the Walmart parking lot. Walmart purchased the traffic signal which has also had a positive effect on the traffic flow. There have not been any problems near the Walmart location on the north side as well. Mr. Parker also reported that the overhead project is still progressing well. State Traffic Report None due to Mr. Hertel's absence. Unfinished Business Item 99-18: Electronic Radar Signs Mr. Parker reported that the letter of recommendation from the commission has been forwarded to Mr. Berzina. He is requesting two signs in next year's budget. Item closed. New Business Item 00-03: Commission Update Elaine Bourgoin presented copies of the letter from Mayor Yeager that was presented to the commission during the city council meeting on May 2,2000. The commission was recognized for their contributions to the community. In addition to the City Council recognition, Councilor Dan Shine and Chairman Ronnie Awtry were involved in a video that will be aired on the city channel. The video summarizes the activities of the commission. The purpose of the video is to inform the public on the purpose of the commission as well as to try to interest the public to serve on the city commissions. Items of Discussion Don Vann advised the commission that the annual safety patrol awards were presented at the city wide PTA meeting. The first place winner was Notre Dame Elementary and the second place winner was McGaha Elementary. Items of Discussion Lt. Karl Lillie reported that there have been a large number of wrecks at the intersection of Kell and Fairway. The accidents have been due to driver inattention.
