The April meeting of the Wichita Falls Traffic Safety Commission was called to
order by Chairman Ronnie Awtry at 1:30 P.M.
Mr. Jody Wade gave the invocation.
Chairman Ronnie Awtry welcomed Mr.Henry Oliver as representative for the
district 5 position and Dr. Al Sutko as the representative for the at large position. Mr.
Awtry also welcomed guests Councilor Bud Beaty and Janet Booher from Child Advocates.

The financial report and minutes for March were accepted and approved as written.
The accident statistics were circulated for review.
City Traffic Report
Mr. Bob Parker reported that the city has been busy working on all of the detours
across town due to construction. The Scott St. bridge is scheduled to be rebuilt in
November,which will create additional detours and construction areas.
State Traffic Report
Mr. Clyde Williford report that the overhead project is moving along well.
Unfinished Business
Item 99-18: Electronic Radar Signs
Mr. Parker reported that due to increased gasoline prices, there is no money
in his budget to purchase the signs as originally hoped. After discussion, the commission
voted to add the signs as an above budget item in Mr. Parker's upcoming budget request.
The Commission will support the item at the budget hearings and also send a letter of
support to the City Manager. Elaine Bourgoin will draft the letter for submission.
Item to remain open.
Item 99-19: Walnut/Scott Intersection
Mr. Parker reported that since there have not been any accidents at this
location,there is not enough evidence to warrant signal changes or redesign of the
intersection. Item closed.
New Business
Item 00-02: Traffic Patrol Project
Elaine Bourgoin introduced Janet Booher with Child Advocates. Mrs.
Booher explained the purpose of Child Advocates and their involvement in the community.
She requested the commission's assistance on a current project with the March of Dimes.
To raise money for the March of Dimes, the safety patrol programs at the different schools
within the city are collecting money and participating in the walkathon. There are 132 kids
participating at the event which will be held at Barwise School on April 29th from 9a.m. to
noon. The sponsors need ribbons to identify the participants and snacks and drinks for the
event. Mrs. Booher requested a donation from the commission based on the commission's
involvement with the safety patrol programs at the schools. The Commission voted and
approved an expenditure of not to exceed $125.00 for the event.
Items of Discussion
Ronnie Awtry reported that the intersection of McNiel and Phillips is blind due to
trees growing on the corner. Mr. Robert Parker agreed to handle the situation.

Trooper Joe Clement reported that the safety patrol evaluations will be completed
in time for the annual awards. Elaine Bourgoin agreed to contact Don Vann to coordinate
the awards and trophy needed for the meeting.
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 2:25
P.M.
