The Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls, met in
special called session at 4 P. M. on the above date with the following present:

The purpose being to discuss the natural gas rate question
the meeting was called to order and W. D. Cline, President of the Chamber of
Commerce being present was requested to address the Board, Mr. Cline expressed
the opinion that the increase proposed by the Municipal Gas Co., was unjustified
and, pledged the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce in combatting any increase
in the cost of natural gas rates in this City.
Commissioner Stayton reported that the Municipal Gas Co., in-
tends to increase the cost of gas by placing a "ready to serve" charge of fifty
cents on each meter, effective September 1, 1923.
After discussing the different methods which might be employed
to combat this proposed increase the following motion was put in order.
Moved by Alderman Stayton that this City join an organization
of other cities served by the Municipal Gas Co., to fight the proposed increase
in gas rateq, which the said Municipal Gas Co., has declared will be put in
effect September 1, 1923, and that the City Clerk be authorized to draw a war-
rant on the General Fund for this cities pro rata cost of fighting this case,
said cost to be based on the number of meters in use in this city as compared
to other cities, and that the City Attorney be authorized to attend the orga-
nization meeting of the 21 cities effected.
Motion seconded by Alderman Young and earned.
