holding a Public Hearing on Ordinance No. 1626, being an Ordinance adopting a Budget
for the ensuing year, beginning October 1, 1952, and ending September 30, 1953.
The following letter, from representatives of the Fire Department, was
read to the Council by City Manager Bill N. Taylor:
TO THE Honorable City Council of the City of Wichita Falls, Texas
A meeting of the entire Fire Department was held September 20, 1952, and the Firemen
voted to have the Fire Dept. committee recommend to members of the City Council, that
they make a $10.00 per month deferential pay between each classification of the Fire
Department, beginning with a Fireman or Hoseman through the rank of Captain.
THE FOLLOWING IS THE REASON WHY WE THINK THERE SHOULD BE A D1FJ ERENTIAL FAY
A Hoseman rides the back end of the fire truck and is responsible for fighting fire
when the fire truck arrives at fire.
A fire truck driver is responsible of knowing all streets, and street numbers,
all location of fire plugs, care of fire truck, laying lines to fire plugs, and
responsible for the operation of fire truck when the pump is being used.
The Lieutenant and Captain are responsible for the same fire fighting service.
The Captain is in charge of one shift and the lieutenant is in charge of one shift.
Trusting that members of the City Council will give this recommendation their careful
consideration, we remain, the Fire Department Committee.
