The meeting was called to order at 5:43 PM by Chairman Henry White.
Minutes from the May 19, 1994 meeting stood approved as distributed.
Mr. Luedke gave a progress report on the Paint Program. 85 applications have been received
thus far and 59 vouchers for paint have been distributed. Volunteers are still needed to paint
four homes. The Red River Optimist Club has offered to paint one house while the Eastside
Paint Squad is planning to paint another. Councilor Thompson stated that his church would be
willing to paint a house in the Eastside.
Nominations for committee officers were opened. James Welburn and Brenda Jarrett were
nominated for president. Nominated for Vice President was Otis Polk III. Brenda Jarrett and
Otis Polk III were nominated for Secretary. The committee decided to hold elections at the next
regular meeting.
Ms. Webster gave a report on a neighborhood meeting that was held June 20, 1994 in the Kemp
Addition. Discussion at the meeting focused on neighborhood improvements and ideas on
fighting crime in the neighborhood. Several residents were given assistance with HOME
Program applications. Kemp Addition meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month.
Councilor Thompson announced the meeting dates for the half cent sales tax public meetings.
The first meeting will be held at the Activities Center on Thursday July 7, 1994, the second at
the MLK Center on Tuesday July 12, 1994, with meetings also at Sunnyside and at Hirshi High.
The committee expressed their desire for District 2's fair share of projects. Needs in the district
that were mentioned included improvements at Williams Park and several areas with poor
drainage. Mr. Williams agreed to consult with Brenda Jarrett to make a list of projects needed in
District 2.
Mrs. Webster expressed her concern about Jalonic Park. There should be more facilities in the
park such as tennis and volleyball.
The committee identified the need for a larger group. A larger turnout is desired for the next
meeting which will be election of new officers. 15 names were given to Mr. Luedke to be
placed on the committee's mailing list. The names of the nominees for officers will also be
included on the agenda.
Next meeting will be on Thursday August 4, 1994 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kemp-Sunnyside
Community Center.
