Moved by Ald erma n Harvey that Alderman Hunt be elected
Mayor Prot em to serve during the absence from the City of Mayor
J. W. Akin.
Motion seconded by Alderman Spoonts and carried by the
following vote:
Yeas: Aldermen Harvey, Spoonts and McCutchen.
Nays: None,
Mayor Prot era Hunt then took charge of the meeting.
The Minutes of the previous me eti ng were read and approved.
Moved by Alderman McCut then that the application of W. T.
Willis for a permit to construct an apartment house at the corner of
Tenth and Grace Streets be received and a public hearingbe held at
7 : 30 P. M. August 5 ths 1929 in the Council in the Memorial
Audi t cEr i um Building for the purpose of hearing protests.
Motion seconded by Alderman Harvey and carried,
The hearing with reference to the gasoline f illing station
proposed to be established by L, P. Hammond on Lot 12, Block 261,
Original Towns ite, was called and after reading a petition of pro-
tests signed by W. W. Silk, C. B. Woods, Mrs. J. L. Art, Mrs, R. 0,
Harvey, Mrs, W. A. Freear, W. A. F reear, B. B . Bacon, J. A. Evans,
T.rs. Guy J. Brown, George Fleming and Miley Wyatt, the following
motion was put in order:

Moved by Alderman Spoonts that the permit applied for by
L. P. Hammond for a gasoline filling station to be constructed on
Lot 12, Block 261, Original Townsite, be not granted for the following
reasons to -wit:
w-
(1) The construction and operation of said filling station
will cause a fire hazard.
(2) This being a congested corner the operation of said
filling station will be a serious handicap to traffic.

(3) It will injure property values in strictly residential
district.
(4) It will be a detriment to the health, peace and comfort of
all surrounding property owners.
Motion seconded by Alderman McCutchen and carried.
Moved by Alderman Harvey that the permit applied for by Lawler
Smith for the privilege of establishing a curb filling station at 110 Park
Street be denied.
Motion seconded by Alderman McCutchen and carried.
Bids for a city depository for the year beginning August 1, 19292
were opened and considered.
The following bids were received:
Security National Bank 3.25% interest on daily balances.
City National Bank 3% interest on daily b el ences .
Moored by Alderman McCutchen that the Security National Bank be
named city depository for the year beginning August 1st, 1929, on their
bid of 3.25% interest to be paid on daily balances.
Motion seconded by Ald er man Harvey and carried,
Moved by Alderman McCutchen that the Record News be named the
official organ for the city for the year beginning August 1st, 1929, on
their bid of 725f per column inch for legal publications.
Motion seconded by Ald er man Spoont s and carried,
Moved by Alderman F.cCut chen that the proposition of W. S . Curlee
with reference to the City reimbursing him for certain water and sewer
lines constructed in Indian Heights Addition be passed over until the
next meeting.
Motion seconded by Al derma n Spo oats and carried,
Moved by Alderman McCutchen that the claim of Minnie. Johnson
for alleged damage sustained by her in a collision with a fire truck be
rejected,
