Min 02/26/1934Wichita Falls, Texas Memorial Auditorium Building February 26, 1934 The Board of Aldermen of the City of Wichita Falls met in regular session on the above date with the following members present: J. N. Prothro, Mayor Protern Leon L. Deaton, Z Raymond M. Myers, Y Aldermen George D. Fox, Y V. R. Smitham, City Manager W. E. McBroom, City Clerk. The Minutes of the previous meeting were read and appivved Moved by Alderman Deaton that the application of Jesse V. Self for a chauffeur's permit be approved. Motion seconded by Alderman Fox and carried. Moved by Alderman Deaton that the following resolution be adopted. Motion seconded by Alderman Fox and carried by the following vote: Yeas: Aldermen Deaton, Fox, and Myers. Nays: None. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Texas Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Wichita Falls Junior Chamber of Commerce are conducting a state wide campaign to encourage the taxpayers of Texas to reduce the tremendous amount of delinquent taxes now due the State and its many subdivisions, and WHEREAS, the failure to collect these taxes has created a crisis in the financial affairs of many of the various governmental units within the state and has increased the cost of government through overdraft and interest charges on borrowed money and, at the same time, has decreased the efficiency and services of government, and WHEREAS, the future integrity and efficiency of government depends upon an adequate and equal system of collecting the sums of money necessary for its existence, and WHEREAS, there are many taxpayers now able to pay their de- linquent taxes who should be enlightened as to their duty and gain in doing so, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS that the movement so sponsored by the Texas Juhior Chamber of Commerce be heartily endorsed; that Her Excellency, .1,325 Governor Miriam A, Ferguson, be petitioned to issue an official pro- olamation designating the week of March 19, 1934, as "Delin4luent Tax Week" in conformity with the plan of the movement, and that the Mayor of the City of Wichita Falls issue a similar proclamation for observ- ance of this week within the limits of this City. Passed by unanimous vote on this the 26th day of February, A.D. 1934, at a regular meeting of this Board. Moved by Alderman Fog that the adjustment of taxes for the years 1932 and 1933 on the St. James Hotel property by elimination of the building value due to the fact that the building had been condemned by the City, be approved in the amount of $347.06 be -was follows; 1932 original tax $260.54, amount paid on land only $67.76, reduction $192.78, 1933 original tag $208.46, amount paid on land only $54.18, reduction $154.28. Motion seconded by Alderman Myers and carried. Moved by Alderman Deaton that the meeting be adjourned subject to call of the Mayor. Motion seconded by Alderman Myers and carried.
